Stingray Senior Update Class of 2022 - May 2022

This is the final Stingray Senior Update for the Class of 2022. Please read this over in its entirety so you are prepared for cap and gown distribution, senior week, rehearsal, and graduation.

It's MAY and graduation is just DAYS away! We're on the downhill slope towards your last day as a high school student so finish strong, have fun, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Keep in mind that all money handled on campus must be cash or money order. No checks or credit cards can be taken.

May Senior Items and Events

The final senior shirt is in! If you have a Stingray, Ocean, or Reef package you have a shirt to pick up. See Ms. Lakatos in room 502 to pick up your shirt.

Yearbooks will be distributed to seniors during senior laptop return on May 16th in the media center (see laptop return section for details on this event).

Seniors last day: Friday, May 20, 2022.

Senior Celebration and Awards is going to be held on Thursday, May 19th at 6pm in the auditorium. Seniors attending the event should arrive at 5:30pm and be in their cap and gown.

Senior Olympics is on May 20th and everyone in the Stingray, Ocean, and Reef packages have tickets to this event. Students without tickets can purchase one from Ms. Solomon for $10.

  • To compete you need to put a team together.
  • Teams must be a minimum of 10 people (7 boys, 3 girls). Maximum of 12 (7 boys, 5 girls).
  • Teams must be wearing the same color shirt/matching shirts.
  • On a piece of paper, write down: your roster with all your team members, your team name, team captain, and shirt color.
  • Submit team information to Ms. Lakatos in room 502.
  • Deadline: Tuesday, May 17th

Senior Week starts on May 20th with Senior Olympics and continues through May 25th. All members of the Stingray and Ocean packages have tickets to the entire week. The events are:

  • May 20th- Senior Olympics
  • May 23rd- Main Event from 10am-2pm
  • May 24th- Top Golf from 10am-12pm
  • May 25th- Adventure Landing from 10am-2pm

Students must provide their OWN transportation to each event. If you want a ticket and don't have one, you can purchase one in Ms. Solomon's room, room 104, for $50 (cash only) through May 13th.

Post-Secondary Plans Data

Did you complete this surveys for guidance? If not, please complete these surveys to inform us of your plans after graduation. The surveys are required to receive your "Fast Pass" for cap and gown delivery as well as access to participate in senior week activities. The Atlantic Coast Administrators and Counselors thank you for taking the time to report the following information. You can submit these forms as many times as you need. We want to celebrate you!

Form #1 College/Trade School/Military Applications Submitted | Use this form to report everywhere you have submitted post-secondary (college/trade school/military enlistment) applications.

Form #2 College/Trade School/Military Acceptances | Use this form to report any and all of the post-secondary institutions you've been accepted to, regardless of whether or not you plan to actually enroll.

Form #3 Scholarships Awarded | Use this form to log all of the scholarships you have earned.

Commencement Dues/Senior Fees

Cost: $30

ALL seniors planning on participating in the graduation ceremony are required to pay $30 commencement dues. Members of the Stingray, Ocean, and Reef senior packages have already paid these dues. The fee can be in person (exact cash only) in room 104 or online at dcps.schoolcashonline.com through May 13th. The absolute final deadline to pay commencement dues is May 13, 2022.

Cap and Gown Delivery & Pick-Up

Wednesday, May 18th from 1pm to 3pm

On this day students will go to stations in order to receive clearance to pick up their cap and gown. Some of those stations include:

  • All student debt/fine must be cleared in the Media Center with Ms. Goller and/or Ms. Dorety.
  • All textbooks must be turned in and any debt paid for missing textbooks with Ms. Torres.
  • Return your student laptop, charger, and bag.
  • Commencement dues ($30) must be paid (alternatively you can pay this online through May 13th). Senior packages members have already paid this fee!
  • This is also when you will get your graduation tickets and pick up your honor society cords from sponsors.
  • Be prepared for lines on this day… PLAN AHEAD.
  • You may not pick up another student’s gown.

Make-up cap and gown delivery will be on Thursday, May 19th from 1pm to 2pm.

Earn a Fast Pass to Cap and Gown Pick-Up

Lines at cap and gown delivery can get LONG so make sure you are ready beforehand by earning a Fast Pass to "skip the line" at the stations and go directly to picking up your cap and gown. You can earn a pass through Friday, May 13th by proactively clearing all student debt (including turning in textbooks or paying for missing books). Then, on May 18th you will go straight to the cap and gown pick up station to receive your cap and gown!* See Ms. Solomon in room 104 or Ms. Goller/Ms. Dorety in the Media Center for details.

*Students who are not clear for graduation will be unable to pick up a cap and gown regardless of Fast Pass status.

Student Laptop, Charger, and Bag

Monday, May 16th ONLY

Please remember that you have all been assigned a student laptop (value varies by student, check OneView -> My Devices), charger ($20) (and possibly a $30 bag) that can ONLY be returned on May 16th. Receiving your “Fast Pass” means you are clear of everything but these items. To receive a cap and gown you must return these items on May 16th, otherwise you will have to pay upwards of $650 in additional student debt for these items.

You will be dismissed from class by an intercom announcement to the media center by last names using the following schedule:

  • 7:30am: Last Names A - CH
  • 8:15am: Last Names CL - G
  • 9:00am: Last Names H - L
  • 9:45am: Last Names M - P
  • 12:40pm: Last Names Q - S
  • 1:10pm: Last Names T - Z + Makeups

If you have senior leave/late arrival, you may come outside of your assigned time BUT you MUST produce your senior leave/late arrival ID that shows you would not have been able to attend your assigned time. If you cannot produce this ID, Ms. Menard will turn you away to return at your scheduled time.

If you miss laptop return, you will ONLY be able to return your laptop during cap and gown distribution on May 18th (after school from 1pm to 3pm) before you pick up your items.

Graduation Rehearsal

Thursday, May 26th at 7:30am

Arrive no later than 7:30am. Can arrive as early as 7:15am.

Rehearsal is MANDATORY for ALL students participating in graduation. Parking will be free during practice in Parking Lot Z (located off of Duval Street). Seniors will enter through the doors to the right of the box office on Duval Street. Seniors must transport themselves to rehearsal, transportation is NOT provided.

Graduation

  • Date: May 26, 2022
  • Students Arrival Time: 3:50pm You will enter the same doors you came through at rehearsal. CARRY your cap and gown. Bring nothing else with you.
  • Ceremony Start Time: 5pm Front doors will open approximately one hour before the ceremony start time.
  • Location: VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena 300 A. Philip Randolph Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32202
  • Tickets: Ten (10) tickets per graduate Students can earn up to seven (7) additional tickets, see section on tickets below.

Graduation Dress Code

Students are required to wear one of the following under their gowns:

  • Option #1: ALL BLACK semi-formal dress (no strapless dresses)
  • Option #2: Black dress pants, a white dress shirt, and the provided bow-tie (distributed during cap and gown distribution in May)

Shoes must be ALL BLACK dress shoes. No excessively high heels are to be worn. Remember you have to walk a long way, stand a long time, and go up and down stairs.

NO flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes, or sneakers are to be worn. Jeans are NOT to be worn. Also, please do not chew gum during the ceremony, as it looks unprofessional. Remember this is an important ceremony and you are expected to dress appropriately, and be prompt with all times mentioned related to graduation.

Failure to follow these policies will result in you being sent home and not walking during the ceremony.

Tickets

Seniors will receive ten (10) tickets when they pick up their cap and gown in may. All guests attending the event (including children) must have a ticket to enter the venue. Seniors will be able to earn 7 additional tickets to graduation if they meet the following requirements.

  1. Post-Secondary Ready in Math*
  2. Post-Secondary Ready in Reading*
  3. Proof of collegiate letter of acceptance or proof of military enlistment with a contract signed
  4. Acceleration Credit: Earning Dual Enrollment or Industry Certification
  5. Earn a 60% or higher on the Florida Civics Literacy Exam (FCLE)
  6. Proof of PTSA Membership
  7. Parent attended senior parent meeting on March 31st

  • May 27th: Last day of school for 9th-11th graders.

Senior olympics and cook out on May 20th is the first day of our Senior Week Events. These are celebration events held both on and off campus through May 25th.

  • Members of the Stingray and Ocean package have a ticket to ALL events.
  • Members of the Reef package only have a ticket to Senior Olympics.
  • All other seniors can purchase a ticket to attend Senior Week for $50 in room 104 through May 13th.

Please be aware that Atlantic Coast will be on a special early release schedule this week. The schedule will be announced as soon as it's available.
