Central Dispatch CGEMC Newsletter | August 2023

More Power To You

Empowering members is an integral part of the mission and vision of Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC). We also understand that providing options beyond reliable, affordable electric service is becoming an ever more critical role for CGEMC as your local, trusted energy advisor.

By the end of 2022, our fiber network reached more than 20,000 CGEMC members’ homes and businesses, enabling access to high-speed internet at an affordable price. Our goal is 50,000 passings by the end of 2023 and fiber access for every CGEMC member less than one year from now!

CGEMC assets grew by a record $78 million in 2022. System growth at such a rapid pace requires significant capital investment, but directors and employees have worked diligently to keep rates affordable. As a result, I am pleased to report for the 11th consecutive year, CGEMC ranked among the three lowest-cost electric providers in all of Georgia.

Additional service offerings, such as renewable energy through our Cooperative Solar program, natural gas from our wholly owned subsidiary Fuel Georgia, and home security or home repair plans through CGEMC partners are all designed specifically to provide you with the power to make decisions that best fit your lifestyle.

Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” At CGEMC, we continuously look for ways to change and, more specifically, improve the products and services offered to you, our members.

The number one goal of CGEMC is to provide affordable, high-quality services, and we will continue to work diligently to meet that goal. Thank you for trusting CGEMC to provide MORE POWER TO YOU.

Rooftop Solar Calculator

Helping You Make the Best Decision for Your Home

When considering your solar energy options, it is important to understand the pros and cons to make the best decision for your home. Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC), your trusted energy advisor, now offers a Rooftop Solar Calculator to help you gain insight into the reality of rooftop solar's costs, potential benefits, or downfalls.

The Rooftop Solar Calculator on our website at www.cgemc.com/rooftopsolar will walk you through questions regarding your goals for adding solar. By asking questions about the roof's age, the amount of shade around the home, and the average electric bill, the calculator can provide personalized insights and recommendations regarding the feasibility and potential benefits of installing a rooftop solar system.

The calculator will use this information to estimate the total solar system cost, potential annual electric bill difference, and the estimated payback time for a rooftop solar system.

If you find a rooftop system may meet your energy needs but have more questions, our Customer Service team or our Energy Advisor are available for more in-depth questions to help you understand your solar options.

If you determine rooftop solar isn't a good match but want to engage with green energy options, CGEMC offers our Cooperative Solar program. Cooperative Solar allows you to enjoy the benefits of rooftop solar with none of the associated installation and maintenance costs.

CGEMC wants to give you the tools to make informed decisions about your energy options. Whether you use the Rooftop Solar Calculator or do your own research, we are always available to help.

energy tip

Did you know ceiling fans can make a room feel 4 degrees cooler? To save energy through ceiling fan use, remember to raise your thermostat a few degrees while fans are turned on.

Ceiling fans can help improve comfort year-round. In the summer, operate ceiling fans in a counterclockwise direction. Reverse the direction to clockwise during winter months and set fans on a low speed so warm air can circulate from the ceiling to the lower levels of the room.

Remember, ceiling fans cool people, not spaces. Be sure to turn them off when you leave the room.
