Reflections from the Acting Head
There has been much to energise and inspire us this week, from Y6 developing their problem-solving and collaboration skills in the Enigma Workshop as part of their World War 2 topic, to Mr Hancock's excellent and informative assembly on Democracy and the role of the United Nations and some exciting school development planning work being undertaken by our School Council under the direction of Mrs Fidler.
I read an interesting article today about an initiative led by Sheffield Girls' School in which the girls are learning the skills of stand-up comedy, in order to boost their skills of improvising, taking risks and being assertive when necessary. It helped me reflect that humour plays such an important part in helping us to maintain perspective, not take ourselves too seriously and also express sheer delight and enjoyment in life itself. I hope that Oakfield children continue to smile, laugh and be joyous as they go about their day, and that you all enjoy a happy weekend together, especially those of you camping out at 'Oakfield Under the Stars' - have a wonderful time.

School Uniform
I am happy to clarify that girls have the option to wear trousers at school, but these should be plain grey, Oakfield regulation trousers. Girls should continue to wear their usual blouse and cardigan on top. Socks should be grey if trousers are worn.

Lower Foundation
Me and My World
Lower Foundation are really enjoying their topic ‘Me and My World’. This week the children have been focusing on ‘ourselves’. They have discussed similarities and differences amongst peers and even decorated themselves using gingerbread people! They looked fabulous and tasted even better! Yum Yum!
Year 1
The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig
Year 1 have had lots of fun acting out the story of The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig!
The children really got into the role of the different characters. There was great improvisation and audience participation!
Year 2
Maths
2CS have used their knowledge of Place Value to play 'Snail One Hundred'. We loved this game; why not print the board out and play at home?
Year 3
Trial and Improvement
In 3CF, we have been working on our trial and improvement skills when problem solving! We quickly realised that 2 brains were better than one so we worked in pairs to solve the problem. The red shape could not be next to the grey shape. Blue had to be between white and grey. Green was not a square and blue was on the right of pink.
Year 6
Enigma Workshop
On Wednesday Year 6 had a brilliant time taking part in an Enigma Workshop becoming spies for the day with Thrill Education! Working together they were cracking codes, solving puzzles and inputting their results to help save the world!
Music
Composer of the Week
This weeks composer is our first British composer, Edward Elgar. He composed some wonderful pieces, but we are going to have a good listen to his Cello Concerto this week, which flows masterfully from painfully beautiful and delicate to thunderously powerful and back again.

Hedgehogs
Our Hedgehogs Club were making the most of the sunny weather and took inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy’s natural art. We worked in groups to create artistic pieces using the nature around us.
Sports
Running Club
On Tuesday and Friday, our Running Club enjoyed their morning run around Belair Park, getting ready for their upcoming inter-school races. The first one is on Friday 4th October.
Streatham and Clapham U9 Netball Tournament
A big well done to the U9 Netball Team for playing in the Streatham and Clapham Netball Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. Everyone played extremely well, the A Team came 2nd place, and the B Team came 3rd!
Also well done to Ayra and Ayla for being named 'Player of the Match' in their respective matches.
U11 A and B Football Match vs JAPs
On the 18th of September, two girls’ football teams took the minibus to play JAPs. On one of the pitches we lost 1-0, and on the other we won 3-2.
What worked really well was the effort that we all put in. Everyone was trying their hardest and we all enjoyed ourselves. One thing that we could work on is the communicating, as I think that we all could have talked a bit more, but otherwise I was very proud of everyone and we all had a fantastic time. Japs were a good side and they managed to score three goals altogether. I would love to do a match like that again and the weather was brilliant. No-one was acting like they didn’t want to be there, so I think that the people who were there deserved to be.

During their games lesson this week, the Year 6 girls have been practising for their upcoming fixtures. The first U11 match is on the 12th October - please check the sports notice board!
Macmillan Cancer Support
27th September 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
This year we felt it would be appropriate to change our charity support from Jeans for Genes to Macmillan Cancer Support.
As many of you will know Macmillan has a major fundraising drive every year with their Coffee Mornings. We would like to support their work amongst cancer sufferers and their families by inviting children to replace one item of uniform with something purple or green (your child should wear regulatory school uniform and replace one item only).
We kindly ask you to make a donation on the gates.
They/you can wear any item the colour of green or purple, even as simple as a pair of socks or hair bobble/band. That way parents don't need to go and buy something!
