Spider summer series Daniela Stelcer

Hi everyone, it is Daniela Stelcer here! I am so excited to share what I have been up to for the past few months! This Summer has flown by, and I cannot believe I will be heading back to campus in a little over a week… especially as a senior!!

After our season ended, I began an internship with Sports illustrated Swimsuit. My internship responsibilities were under social media and marketing, and I learned so much! Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is published annually and features many amazing and unique people. The internship was remote, but I was able to attend a few awesome events in both New York City and Hollywood, Florida. The first celebration began on May 19 in NYC during the magazine's launch week. I helped on the red carpet which was hosted by Camille Kostek. Some of the people who walked the carpet were Sports Illustrated Swim rookies, cover stars, athletes, social media stars, models and more! During the private event which was held at the brand-new Hard Rock Hotel New York, I got to meet amazing people and even see an exclusive concert by Ciara, who was also one of this year’s cover models!

The next morning, we flew down to Hollywood, Florida where the launch weekend continued. The events during the weekend included various panels that were presented by multiple brand partners. The first panel discussed mental health, while other panels focused on celebrating the realities of motherhood and honoring visionary women. There was also a branding workshop and inclusive activities for fans where they had the chance to win tickets to the VIP concert that evening by Kelsey Ballerini! Being able to see how everything gets handled behind the scenes was such an eye-opening experience. Most of my duties included getting pictures of the models during the events and helping organize and load the content we got on to all the social media platforms throughout the weekend. However, there is a lot of spontaneity that goes into launching a magazine, so I helped with whatever tasks that were needed to help facilitate all departments.

The rest of my experience with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit was pretty much remote and my day-to-day activities included posting content for their app, The Swimfluence Network, creating captions for social media posts, and doing a lot of gathering and organizing data about post analytics. Overall, my experience was amazing! One of the coolest parts about my job was working with a department that was 100% women. I was constantly surrounded by strong, intelligent and kind women that inspired me and showed me how I want to be a part of something great in my future career. This internship was truly something I will always be so grateful and proud to have been a part of. The powerful women in my workplace really did remind me of the hardworking women I have around me on the women’s lacrosse team.

Besides working throughout the summer, I was living in Quogue with my family and squeezing in as many beach days as possible. I enjoyed reading a few books and going on walks and bike rides, embracing the beautiful beaches and weather of Summer out east. I was also lucky enough to see a lot of my teammates either in New York City or on Long Island which was super fun. Even though the Summer flew by, and I missed seeing everyone’s face daily, I can honestly say this was one of the most fun and enlightening summers I have ever had.

I cannot wait for another great year at UofR. See you all soon.
