Lightermans Yard is a fictitious shunting yard somewhere in South East London set in the 1960s around the last days of steam, with the occasional diesel making an appearance. The scene would suggest the Surrey Docks, Rotherhithe area.
The 2mm Kent and Essex Area group's members meet on the second Sunday of each month in St Michael's Church hall, Wilmington near Dartford in Kent. Members come from both sides of the River Thames and from wider afield.
Lightermans Yard originated some 25 years ago, the track layout based on an Ian Rice design for a cameo layout 'Cannonsgate Goods Depot'. Originally DC controlled employing a complex cascade running system devised by Andrew Cox, the decision was taken in 2015 to convert the wiring to DCC.
