Iowa Western wins first outdoor National title
Hutchinson, KS - Iowa Western captures the 2022 NJCAA DI Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, its first in school history. The Reivers captured 117 points in the tournament, beating second place by 19
The Reivers held off New Mexico JC, Cloud County (KS), and Barton (KS) who each followed close behind in the top-5. Iowa Western brought home national champions in the women's heptathlon, 1500m, 10k, 5000, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
New Mexico finished second with 98 total points, Cloud County (KS) placed third with 92 points, Barton (KS) took fourth with 90 points, and defending champion South Plains (TX) placed fifth with 70 points.
Distance runner Hilda Chebet leads Reivers to first women's outdoor title
The Reivers came at the top of their game this week, scoring in 16 of the 22 events in the championship to help claim their first title.
Freshman Hilda Chebet brought home three individual national titles for the Reivers. In the 10k on a late 10 p.m. start time, she outright won the event with a time of 37:43.91. This time was a minute greater than second place. Chebet also won the 1500 and women's 5000 respectively.
Sophomore Alliyah McNeil claimed the high jump with a leap of 1.82m and took home silver in the long jump. Teammate Miracle Ailes claimed the long jump gold with a jump of 6.62m.
Antonia Sealy competed in the Heptathlon and was able to claim the title with a point total of 4872. The freshman earned first-place finishes in the shot put, long jump, and javelin, while also finishing second in the 100mH.
New Mexico claims second-place
The Thunderbirds put together a strong week in the championship and came up just short with a second-place finish. Freshman Calisha Taylor brought home the 400m hurdles individual title with a mark of 59.11.
Freshman distance runner Damaris Chewon brought home bronze in the 10000 with a mark of 38:47.15. Aaliyah Lindsay earned a third-place finish in the triple jump.
Cloud County finishes with a third-place finish
The Thunderbirds walk away with a third-place finish after a strong week in Hutchinson. Freshman Vimbayi Maisvorewa earned first place in the 400m with a mark of 54.18.
Cloud County also saw strong performances in the Javelin Throw. Hollie Stewart and Jessi Brummett earned first and second respectively in the event.
After a strong run in the prelims, the Thunderbird 4x800 Meter Relay team of Ludjenie Mondesir, Passion Crews, Abigail Fisher, and Pamela Milano brought home first with a mark of 9:22.08.
