Forest Friday 3rd March 2023

Over the half term, the teachers and their families moved the bike shelter so we could have a covered area in Forest School. Today we cleaned all the windows with sponges and washing up liquid. We want to paint stained glass windows, have a log seating area and a calm reading area under the bike shed once it is finished.
We needed to line the sandpit to stop it rotting when we add the soil. We worked together to cut old compost bags into strips and Miss Dixon stapled them to the sides.
Mrs Daffin has kindly donated top soil. We used our hands to tip the bags of soil into the sandpit . If anyone has any spare soil, manure or compost, we are still in need of a lot more!
We looked at grape hyacinth (muscari) bulbs. We saw how they had sent a long green shoot from the bulb. Some of us even had baby flowers growing from our bulb. We learned how the bulbs can quickly multiply to create new baby bulbs, and as we sifted through the soil, we could spot some baby bulbs in the mix. Finally we chose new places to plant our bulbs.
We thought about how to give clear directions. We learned how to tell the difference between left and right and then made full, half and quarter turns. We had to think very very hard, to work out which way to go. It was easier following the leader and turning when they said. It was much harder being blindfolded and trusting our partner to give clear directions to the right shape!
