Patrick k. Freer

Director of the Tenor-Bass Choir

Patrick K. Freer is Professor of Music at Georgia State University where he conducts the Tenor-Bass Choir and directs the masters & doctoral programs in music education. He has held Visiting Professorships at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria)and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). He has been conductor-in-residence conductor for the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra (Colombia). His degrees are from Westminster Choir College and Teachers College-Columbia University. Dr. Freer has guest conducted or presented in 40 states and 29 countries. Dr. Freer is Editor of the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and former longtime editor of Music Educators Journal. He serves on ACDA’s National Standing Committee for Research and Publications and has chaired all three of ACDA’s International Symposia for Research in Choral Singing. Dr. Freer also chaired the philosophy sub-group within the task force responding to COVID-19 concerns for the National Collegiate Choral Organization (USA).His research and pedagogical expertise centers on working with boys and their changing voices, from prepubescence to young adulthood.

Heather Russell

Director of the Alexander Mixed Mastery Chorus

Heather Russell, a native of Brunswick, GA, earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Georgia Southern University in 2020. During her time at GSU, she was a member of the Georgia Southern Chorale who traveled to compete in the Ave Verum International Choral Competition in Austria as well as the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany. Since earning her degree, she has taught in both the private and public school system of Georgia. She is currently the Director of Choral Activities and Music Director for the Spring Musical at Alexander High School of Douglasville, GA. Her notable performances as an educator include National Anthem performances at Mercer University and Truist Park for the Atlanta Braves in 2022, as well as productions of Shrek the Musical Jr., Little Shop of Horrors, and Newsies. She is a member of GMEA and NAfME. Ms. Russell currently resides in Atlanta with her partner, Lorenzo, and many cats.

Dr. Jennifer Sengin

Director of the Treble Choir and Choral Union

Jennifer Sengin is the Associate Director of Choral Activities at Georgia State University where she conducts the Women’s Chorus and Choral Union and teaches graduate choral literature, graduate and undergraduate conducting, undergraduate choral methods, and supervises student teachers. Under her direction, the Women’s Chorus recently performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference in January, 2020. Dr. Sengin is very passionate about recruiting. In collaboration with the Director of Choral Activities, she has worked to increase enrollment in the choral program at GSU. In 2021, Dr. Sengin was named a semi-finalist for The American Prize in Conducting–college/university division and the Women’s Chorus was named a semi-finalist in Performance–college/university division.
