Alan Turing the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence

Alan Turing was educated at the best schools. He went to St Michael's, a day school, at the age of six, Hazelhurst Preparatory School at the age of ten and Sherborne at the age of 13. When Turing enters 6th form in Sherborne,in 1928, he meets Christopher Morcom, one of the only friends he'll have in his life time. Only two years after meeting him, Christopher Morcom suddenly died on February 13, 1930 from bovine tuberculosis. In 1931, after finishing Sherborne Turing went to Kings College, Cambridge. He graduated in 1934. Later on, in 1936 he went to Princeton University for a PhD (He finished in 1938). Alan never really had much friends growing up and was usually an outcast. Turing's schoolmates did cruel things to him such as nailing him under the floorboards.

World War 2 broke out in Sept. 1939 and Turing was moved to a wartime headquarters at Bletchley Park, Buckingham shire. The Poles had success in the breaking of enigma ( A machine used by the German military to encrypt radio communications) but a change in the Germans system made the polish's machine useless. They told the Britians and the French what they knew. By 1942 Alan, three years after arriving, with his team broke through and were decoding 39,000 intercepted messages each month which later changed to 84,000 messages per month. That's two messages a minute! All his information would help the army make much smarter choices, ending the war early and and saving millions of lifes!

I think Turing's biggest accomplishments were starting the computer age and saving the millions of lives he did. According to bbc news he ended the war 2-3 years yearly! An average of 7 million soldiers died each year in WW2, which means he saved around 14-21 Million lives! He never was publicly thanked, and was barely rewarded because no one was to know what was really going on in Bletchley park everything their was top secret and all the evidence of his work was destroyed after the war. They also wanted it to stay a secret in case Germany broke out again, they will be able to break into them again, using Turing's machine. On top of all that Turing wrote The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis, which explains why some animals are spotted, striped or blotchy. Alan was the first person to come up with the morphogenesis idea but there wasn't enough technology to prove it until 6o years later. He also made the Turing test, which tests a computer on the ability to fool a human of being a human. Turing did not have many moral beliefs and was not a believer. Turing was a homosexual and this sin later led to his own self destruction.

Alan Turing got engaged to a woman named Joan Clark, the only woman working at Bletchley Park. Joan Clark had a big contribution to breaking the Enigma, and it was a big deal since it was during a very sexist era. Turing told her he was a homosexual, but she didn't want to back out. Alan later backed out because he didn't want the marriage to end in divorce, or for her to be unhappy. As for family Alan had his parents all the way to his suicide. After Christopher died Turing became close with Christopher's mom.

Alan Turing was convicted of "gross indecency" in 1952, and was sentenced to 12 months of "hormone therapy". One year after his "treatment" was over Turing was found dead in his bed. Alan Mathison Turing committed suicide on June 7,1954 by poisoning himself, eating an apple to cover the taste of the cyanide and going to bed. Turing’s life story is one of the best examples of how someone's sin led to a very horrendous destruction. Even though he saved the millions of lives he did he lost his eternally. Just imagine if the father of the computer had lived longer, how technologically advanced would we be?
