Lake Como (Day 1) italy

We left Sardinia a little hastier and much earlier than planned.

Our last day with Skedaddle finished with a leisurely breakfast and a transfer back to Cagliari where we were able to check in early to our hotel for the evening.

Mark and Deb were due to fly out later that day as they had a flight cancellation that meant they brought their flight forward by a day. We were all relaxing over a light lunch whilst we asked the group how early should Jenny and I depart in the morning to catch an 8am flight and as we agreed on a suitable time based on the fact it was a Sunday and early (for Italians), the phone buzzed just after 1:00pm with a txt msg from Ryanair informing us that our flight was cancelled due to industrial action by airport handlers.

With some quick googling, there was a flight with Ryanair in less than 2hrs!!! With no time to loose, we checked out of the hotel and jumped in a cab with Deb and Mark (who were soon to leave for the airport anyway) and headed straight there.

Jumped straight into the check-in queue as couldnt find any customer service desk only to be told that we had to go to the ticket office around the corner.

Only one booth open with just one person being served. Time stood still as it was obvious that the local Italian customer was getting emotional as she was running out of options to get a flight to wherever she was heading. Whilst waiting I was able to secure the last 2 seats on the 2:55pm flight on the Ryanair app, but couldn’t check in as was under 2hrs to departure. So headed back to the check in queue… the story contInues, but with some teamwork from both Deb and Mark we got the boarding passes on the final call and got through security only to find that our gate was deserted! Luckily we spotted a gate with passengers boarding that ended up being our flight after a late gate change.

So we made it to Milan a day earlier than expected! Albeit, worn out from all the stress, but grateful that we pulled it off as lake Como wouldn’t have happened!
