Nonconformity
On the television cartoon show, Regular Show, shows signs of nonconformity in almost every episode. Rigby, the raccoon, shows us how to slack off our daily work and how lazy you can actually be.
I agree, Rigby shows laziness in every day life. Sometimes we all wish we were Rigby. A guy, or in this case a raccoon, that could slack off of work because he "doesn't feel like it" and gets away with it each and every day.
Rigby is a perfect example of nonconformity. When you think of nonconformity, you think of a person who's lazy or just doesn't care what other people think. That is Rigby, and he indeed shows it in every episode to have come out.
Self Reliance
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the 2014 film "American Sniper," Chris Kyle, shows us how it's done. A one man job that takes a lot of training and skill. Chris shows self reliance in the beginning to the end of the movie. This American Sniper is alone and afraid, but has to rely on himself to survive.
I agree. Bradley Cooper shows us how to trust yourself every step of the way. I believe this is a perfect example of Self-Reliance, especially on a military based movie.
This is a perfect example of Self-Reliance since it involves a one man job. Sniper/Military based movies all have a bit of self reliance, including historic films.
Importance of Nature
“The health of the eye seems to demand a horizon. We are never tired, so long as we can see far enough.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the 2016 film/documentary "Before the Flood," Leonardo DiCaprio, meets with scientists to discuss the dangers of climate change. To help save the environment, he goes out and tries to resolve some problems that could cause a huge positive impact for the future of the environment.
I believe this has everything to do with the Importance of Nature, including the fact of saving it! Climate change is a big deal, especially if its increasing.
This is a perfect example for the Importance of nature, especially on figuring out the dangers of climate change and how to resolve it.
Favoring Intuition over Reason
“Trust your instinct to the end, though you can render no reason.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the 2016 film Assassins Creed, based on a video game, the main character is sent to prison and therefore sentenced to death. The Abstergo administration keeps him alive and make him do some synchronization tests about an assassin in the past. Although he may not know why, he does it anyways.
I love this as an example for Favoring Intuition over Reason since the main character doesn't know why he's doing it, he just favors in. My thoughts on this are why? Why is he doing it without a reason?
This is a perfect example of Favoring Intuition over Reason since there's no reason, just internal instinct telling you should do it. Also deep in the movie, the assassin makes a "Leap of Faith," which is more gut than anything.
Simplified Life
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the movie Red, a man that had retired from the military, but the military wanted him dead. All he wanted was a simplified life. He didn't want anything to do with the military after retirement.
I believe this is a great example since what more can you want? You're done with your life and you want to relax for the rest of it. How simplistic can that be? Why is it so hard to have such a life?
This is a perfect example of Simplified Life since all he wanted was indeed, a simplified life! A man that had unfinished business with the military can't live without finishing. That's just life in general. When you're at the end of your days, surely there's things you wish you could have done.
