last PTO Meeting of the year

Last PTO meeting of the year, North Cafeteria @ 6:00 p.m.

Monday, May 8, is the last PTO meeting of the year. We'll elect officers for next year, talk about Team Days and Freshman Farewell and review our strategic plan to see how we did this year. If you kept meaning to find out more about how you could get involved in PTO this year but just looked up and it's already May, come to this meeting! We have a spot for you next year!

May Staff Appreciation Lunch

For the May staff appreciation lunch, we're using funds from The Big Give to cater a Mediterranean lunch for our teachers and staff. Our awesome hospitality committee chairs could still use help setting up on Friday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. and cleaning up around 1:30 p.m., so please email Rosa if you're available.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Let your students' teachers know they're appreciated!

SUMMER SEND-OFF ice cream social

Save the Date, May 19th, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

We want to end the year with a Summer Send-Off Ice Cream Social. This is part "Thank you for supporting The Big Give!," part "Come meet other North families!" and part "Yay, Summer!" We'll be scooping out Goody's ice cream in the field behind North on Friday, May 19, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. All North students and their families are welcome. Free!

team days!

In case you're new to North, there are two 7th grade teams (Rolling Thunder and Impact) and two 8th grade teams (Blue Wave and Phoenix). Each of these teams will have their own Team Days during the school day on Wednesday, May 17. Keep an eye out for an email from your student's team teacher for more information and how you can help.

Activity Highlights

  • Quiz Bowl is Going to Nationals! In its inaugural year, the team is currently ranked 26th in the nation out of almost 400 teams--a huge achievement! Six players are headed to Nationals in Chicago from May 12th - May 14th: Grady Noble, Molly Stutzman, KK Patterson, Sonia Guton, Lucy Wensel, and Rachel Cooper. 8th grader Grady Noble was the highest-scoring person in the most recent tournament and has broken multiple records. The team is coached by World Studies 7 teacher Ms. Shannon and Todd Noble will attend as the coach. A huge thank you to him for his leadership and support! You can support Quiz Bowl's trip to Nationals through a tax-deductible donation to the Boise Schools Foundation. Choose "Other" and write "NJH Quiz Bowl" in the donation instructions. Don't forget to check if your employer matches too! See Alice Hamilton's story on Quiz Bowl in the April edition of The Viking Post.
  • 7th/8th Grade Track: Some impressive highlights from last week's meet at Timberline! North won the boys and the girls meets. North finished first and second in the Girls 4 x200 and finished first and third in the Boys 4 x 200 (our winning 4 x 200 team has the fastest time in the state by 4 seconds and the fastest time in the city by 8 seconds). Will Studebaker's time of 26.24 in the 200 hurdles is shown as the fastest time in the country for an 8th grader at the distance and hurdle height. AMAZING!!
  • 8th Grade Field Trip: Team Phoenix went on a field trip to the Warhawk Air Museum and the Anne Frank Memorial. A huge thank you to the teachers for organizing, the parents for funding and chaperoning, and the community volunteers that led the tours. The students were great representatives of North! (Team Blue Wave had their field trip after we went to press so watch this space for their photos next week!)

  • 9th Grade Tennis: It was a big day on the courts this week, as the Viking Freshman Tennis Team took on and soundly defeated the Hillside Rams in our first match of the season. Winners of the match included singles players Kai, Lucy P., and Lucy T., as well as the doubles duos of Noah and Cole, Sean and Kai, Avi and Luana, Mckenna and Delaney, Spencer and Evelyn, and Alair and June. Highlights of the match included our awesome North student spectators, Kai's fabulous dive for the win, and Lucy P.'s double victory. Great work, Vikings.
