New Mexico JC wins fifth Women's Indoor Title
Topeka, KS - New Mexico Junior College return to glory by winning the 2023 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field championship. The Thunderbirds had a fantastic weekend, scoring 116 points as a team which is 31.5 points ahead of second place. Cloud County (KS), South Plains (TX), and Barton (KS) all finished within two points of each other for a second, third, and fourth-place finish respectively. Defending champion Iowa Western rounds out the top five.
As a team, the Thunderbirds brought home gold in four events by finishing first in the 4x400m, 200m, 600m, and 5000,.
Thunderbirds back on Top
Following a second-place finish last year, New Mexico JC came back on a mission to finish the job this year.
Sophomores Ashantai Bollers and Tijuanique Morton each finished in the top 3 of the 200m with Bollers taking home first. Calisha Taylor won the 600m with a mark of 1:32.23 and was a part of the 4x400m relay that also brought home gold.
Cloud County finishes as runner-up with 84.5 points
Cloud County put together an impressive performance at the championship by having finishers within the top 3 of eight events. The Thunderbirds have finished within the top 3 of the last three NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Sophomore Vimbayi Maisvorewa brought home gold in the 400m with a mark of 53.50. Miracle Thompson finished second in the 60mH and third in the 60m. The mark 8.27 mark in the 60mH prelims was a Cloud County record, which she previously held.
