AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Cherica Buckner

Cherica Buckner, HCD Ph.D. student, was promoted to Talent Manager in the Office of Talent with Houston Independent School District (HISD).

Dr. Holly Burkett

Dr. Holly Burkett, HCD Ph.D. alumna, was selected as a judge for the 2022 "Reworked IMPACT Awards," sponsored by Simpler Media Group. These awards celebrate exceptional work in the field of employee experience with honors given to individuals as well as departments/teams.

Dr. Holly Burkett was also invited to participate as an Advisory Group member to advise on the second edition of the Talent Development Body of KnowledgeTM (TDBoK) book.

Samitria Crook

Samitria Crook, a current HCD M.S. student, was promoted to Assistant Branch Manager of Hope Federal Credit Union in Louisville, MS.

Courtney Isgett, M.S.

Courtney Isgett, current HCD(ITD) Ph.D. student, recently began a new role as an Academic Advisor at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Tomeka Harbin

Dr. Tomeka Harbin, HCD Ph.D. alumna, received the S. E. Kossman Outstanding Teaching Award, the highest individual faculty award at Delta State University.

Dr. Harbin, HCD Ph.D. alumna, also received the Phi Beta Lambda Outstanding Advisor of the Year.

Dr. John Lambert

Dr. John Lambert, Associate Professor of International Business, participated in the U.S. Department of Commerce event: Building Bridges to Global Markets, August 9, 2022, at the Mississippi e-Center at Jackson State University. Dr. Lambert served on a panel led by the Assistant Secretary and Director General of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Arun Venkataraman. The panel discussed the importance of higher-education involvement in applied learning opportunities in logistics, exporting, and all areas of international business.

Dr. Lambert, by invitation from the U.S. Department of Commerce office in Jackson, MS, served in several round-table discussions at an event hosted by the U.S. Department of State at Jackson State University on August 1, 2022. A number of Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni; Africa’s bright, emerging leaders, came to the U.S. for a two-week series of lectures, meetings, and discussions. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a program of the U.S. Department of State.

Steven Mulhollen, M.B.A.

Steven Mulhollen, current HCD Ph.D. student, joined the Mississippi College faculty as an instructor in the School of Business. Mr. Mulhollen will be teaching intermediate accounting and cost accounting.

Dusti Pisarich, M.S.

Dusti Pisarich, HCD M.S. alumna, was a Corporate Finalist for Lighthouse Business and Professional Women, Woman of Achievement Awards.

Dana Torregano, M.S.

Dana Torregano, Workforce Training and Development alumna, became the 2nd grade structured language arts (SLA) teacher at Louisiana Key Academy - Northshore in August, the first charter school in St. Tammany Parish for children with dyslexia.

Dr. Heather Annulis

Dr. Heather Annulis, Director for the School of Leadership, received the 2021-2022 Educational Administrator of the Year Award given by the USM Association of Office Professionals.

Joyce Powell, M.S.

Joyce Powell, Assistant Director for the School of Leadership, received the 2021-2022 Staff Service Award given by the USM Staff Council.

Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang

Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang, Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering Technology, achieved Quality Matters (QM) certification. QM is a global organization leading quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments, with more than 1,500 colleges and universities joining as members throughout the world. The two certificates she has obtained are "Independent Applying the QM Rubric" and "Peer Reviewer Course" which attest to the educators' ability to deliver quality online learning opportunities to every level of learner with diverse abilities.

PUBLICATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Dr. Holly Burkett

Dr. Holly Burkett, HCD Ph.D. alumna, published the article “Change Leadership from the Ground Up" for the August 2022 edition of Talent Management Magazine.

Dr. Burkett was a selected speaker for National Leadership Day, a virtual event sponsored by The Training Doctor, LLC on July 31, 2022. She shared leadership tips for helping teams move from "Burned Out to Built Up."

Dr. Burkett presented a Member’s Webinar, “Performance Improvement at the Speed of Change" for the Southern California chapter of ISPI (ISP SoCal) on August 2, 2022, where she provided systemic change leadership strategies for human performance technology professionals.

Brooke Graves

Brooke Graves, a current HCD Ph.D. student, presented an educational session entitled "Risk Management for After-School Athletics and Activities" at the Mississippi Association of School Resource Officers Annual Conference on July 15th. This presentation directly ties to her current research on safety training and organizational safety culture.

Tammy Rutland, MBA

Tammy Rutland, MBA and current HCD Ph.D. student gave a presentation on Staffing, Turnover, and Employee Engagement to over 50 childcare administrators/directors connected with the "Gaston and Lincoln Partnership for Children in North Carolina" (www.pfclg.org). The 90-minute training was conducted virtually in September 2022 and was part of a monthly Directors Forum.
