Summary of the Myth

In the myth Hypnos puts Zeus to sleep twice. The first time Zeus was aware that he was put to sleep he then was infuriated and tried to find Hypnos but he hid with his mother, Nyx. The Second time Hypnos was asked to put Zeus to sleep again by Hera but he refused afraid of his wrath. Hera offered to give him the love of his life if he did it. He agreed, put Zeus to sleep without him knowing, and got his wife.

Character Traits

Hypnos is negotiable, loyal, and afraid. He is negotiable because when Hera offered him a reward for what she wanted him to do and he agreed. Evidence stated that "Hypnos was reluctant to trick Zeus again, afraid of his wrath. Hera, however, told him that she would give him Pasithea... for his wife...he agreed to help her." (greekmythology.com) Hypnos is loyal because the first time he put Zeus to sleep he had to be convinced because he was to loyal. Evidences says "I would not come too close to Zeus, the son of Kronos, nor put him to sleep, unless he himself were to tell me." The theme of the myth is that rewards can persuade people"Hypnos was reluctant to trick Zeus again, afraid of his wrath. Hera, however, told him that she would give him Pasithea... for his wife...he agreed to help her." (greekmythology.com) This evidence shows that giving people a reward that they want will persuade them to do what you want
