RUGBY - FHES U16 v Weydon U16

Match Report

FHES U16 v Weydon U16

FHES’s first ever rugby match for current U16 rugby players was against Weydon at Farnham Rugby Club. We knew that Weydon, more experienced than us, would be tough, but we were up for the challenge

We more than matched Weydon in all areas, challenged them at the breakdown and created a number of turnovers. Every player carried the ball well, getting beyond the gain line.

Our defence was incredible and Weydon ran into a brick wall of tackles. The big hits in defence continued and we started to really dominate in the scrum as try scoring opportunities were created.

Awesome speed and fantastic footwork allowed Felix Carrington to break the defence and beat at least 5 tackles. Eventually, he was dragged down but the support was impressive and he was able to offload the ball. Our handling skills did not let us down and we stormed further into Weydon's 22, keeping possession and going forward with every opportunity. This continued for about 12 phases, with every player involved. It was “Champagne Rugby” at its best, and the result was a try for Luke Loveday who was driven over the line by his team-mates.

Overall, despite Weydon winning, it was an exceptional performance from the FHES players. To a man they played their hearts out and produced a level of performance that was far beyond what would be expected with their level of experience

Man of the Match: Alec Lee (for contribution around the park but particularly in the breakdown).

Year 7 Football Squad

Y7 fixtures were hard fought and after narrowly losing our first few games the boys managed to secure a well deserved victory in their last game before the Christmas break.

Year 9 Football Squad

After a disappointing first match the results of our Y11 team went from strength to strength – winning all of their next 4 games and playing some really good football in the process.

Year 7 Football Squad

The Y8 and Y10 teams have trained well and are looking forward to some friendly matched when we come back in January.

PE lessons with a difference

Year 10 have been enjoying PE lessons with a difference - experiencing yoga and boxercise in addition to traditional games we offer on the curriculum.

Primary School Dance Festival

Year 11 Sports Leader were instrumental in running a brilliant dance festival which involved local primary school William Cobbett. The Sports Leaders delivered 5 weekly dance sessions culminating in performances hosted at FHES.

U13 Girls Football

Our squad consisted of Amy Bowden, Isobel Clark, Rosie Carpenter, Maddie Healey, Emily Manson-Hing, Ellie Munro, Innes Needham, Charlotte Score, Isabel Searle, Evie Temple-Hall, Amy Trussler and Georgia Virgo.

We played incredibly well, especially for our first match and covering a whole pitch. We all worked well as a team and smiles were all around as we kept converting goals! We had most possession, and our goalie was barely used in both halves. We were up 5-0 by halftime and then scored another three. Goals came from self-set-ups, corners and assists.

Huge thanks to: Ella Chandler for refereeing, being our coach/manager and running training sessions, Miss Carpenter for coming down to supervise our sessions after school and Mrs Kemp for organising fixtures, driving the minibus and helping set this up.

Hopefully we can take this into our future matches after Christmas and continue to win to become the best ( if we aren’t already!)"

It was a great tournament where everybody had a great time.

Some superb individual performances! Overall, we came 7th but were actually only a few points off achieving a medal and progressing to the next round of the competition.

Well done to all who took part and represented the school so well.
