OVERVIEW

Our professional program is fully accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

At the UA Speech and Hearing Center, speech, language, and hearing services are provided and/or supervised by state-licensed and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE

We offer screening and evaluations for developmental and acquired communication disorders in infants, children, and adults.

From adult clinics to pre-school gatherings, we offer speech and language services for all age groups

Treatment is provided in individual or group sessions. Services related to speech and language include the following:

AUDIOLOGY

The Speech and Hearing Center also provides a comprehensive program that evaluates and manages auditory disorders in infants, children, and adults.

Adult Hearing Services

  • Comprehensive Hearing Evaluations

  • Cochlear Implant Mapping
  • Hearing Screenings (including industrial)
  • Tinnitus Evaluation and Management

Pediatric Hearing Services

  • Comprehensive Hearing Evaluations (including OAE, non-sedated ABR, VRA, and play audiometry)
  • Hearing Aid Fitting and Dispensing
  • Newborn Hearing Screening and Follow-up (non-sedated ABR and OAE test procedures)
  • Hearing Screenings for Head Start and Early Intervention
  • Assistive Listening Devices
  • Auditory Processing Testing and Intervention
We are specialized in adult and pediatric hearing evaluations, hearing aid fitting, and cochlear implant mapping.

Beyond classroom teaching, UA's Communicative Disorders champions laboratory research and service-learning

We teach the principles of communication and swallowing through academic content with a focus on evidence-based practices in Speech-Language Pathology. Upon completion of our graduate program, students pursue careers in hospitals, schools, private practices, and skilled nursing facilities.

The Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Alabama exists to create and disseminate evidence-based information for the provision of the highest quality 1) education for undergraduate and graduate students, 2) clinical services for individuals in need, and 3) research for the advancement of the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology.

LOCATION

The Speech and Hearing Center is located across from DCH Regional Medical Center behind the Capstone College of Nursing on University Boulevard. Access to the center is from Johnny Stallings Drive off Fifth Avenue East.
