Hi I'm Citlali Del Valle and Welcome to Aurora

Aurora is an app to be used by young women to be guided and allow them to be a part of a community of women to speak to and learn from while breaking the stigma of puberty.

Our Story

When she became a camp counselor to sixth-grade girls, she noticed that they were struggling with puberty. That made her recall the memories she had growing up and feeling like she had no one to share her struggles with. With that in mind, she did the best she could to help her little campers navigate puberty. Giving them insight on how to deal with puberty developed their relationship into a sisterly bond. Citlali wanted to show them that what they felt was only temporary and that it was essential to build women up and develop a bond because it's beneficial for us to stick together. From that experience, the idea for Aurora was made.

The Problem

The problem is the stigma around female puberty. It is a problem because many young girls think it is a shameful topic and never discuss it.

The Solution

Aurora was made to fight that problem. Aurora makes it easier for young girls to feel confident while going through puberty because they will not feel like it's shameful and spread that message to other women. The app is there for young women who feel like they need a community to belong to and feel like what they say matters. The features on the app are there to be used to create bonds and trust between its users and educate young women on what they are and will experience during puberty.

The Prototype!

Aurora is partnered with woman-owned feminine hygiene companies that align with Aurora's morals to destigmatize puberty. Suppose the customer chooses to buy from them through the app. In that case, Aurora will donate to the I Support the Girls non-profit organization, which provides bras & menstrual hygiene products to girls who experience homelessness. This gives the user incentive to buy through the app because they will be doing something that will help other girls. It's also an incentive to the hygiene company's to continue to partner with Aurora if it gains new customers.

How we're different

Aurora is different from these other apps because there is a real person on the other end answering your questions. It gives the user the chance to talk to someone who has already gone through puberty or join a group to speak with others going through the same thing. There would also be articles about puberty topics and a tracker that would track the user’s period and their everyday moods like self-confidence. The app is easy to use, unlike others, and it is free to use. The purpose of using the app is for the user to experience the community in it and not feel alone with what you’re going through.

Did you know...

Why Fruit?

Fruits are used in the app as a way for the mentors and the young women to identify each other. With the fruit icon in place of a personal picture or a name, everyone on the app can talk anonymously because of the embarrassment some girls might feel if someone knew their identity. The pomegranate represents the mentors or “aurora,” the big sister there to answer questions. The grapefruits represent girls younger than 14 asking questions. Kiwis represent girls 15 to 18 asking questions, and the lemons represent parents looking for ways to help their children. The fruit pattern represents the different people using the app and the community that is formed.

The message that I want to come across is if the customer feels confused and feels like they can’t talk to anyone my app is there to help. I want my app to come across as the hero of the story by helping my audience understand puberty better instead of feeling confused. The message I want to come across through my marketing is bold and inviting. Since younger girls on the app would be able to talk to other women for advice I want to keep the theme of that community.

Our Goal

Aurora's goal is to break the stigma of puberty by creating a space where young women can speak to and learn from others while being a part of a community.
