Notes From The Den MVHS Principal's letter - January 2022

Cougar Parents & Students,

Welcome to 2022 and, in turn, the second part of this school year!

Our teachers, office staff and administrators are working hard to ensure that our building remains safe and classes are supported every day. As we make our way through the current surge of COVID-19 cases, we encourage families to keep our school community healthy by sending students to school with a mask that fits snugly around their nose and mouth and keeping them home if they have any signs of illness.

Our superintendent recently shared an update regarding temporary changes to spectator rules and COVID-19 isolation/quarantine guidance. If you have not already read that information, please do so here.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. Please continue reading below for additional information regarding student highlights, current school events and other happenings around campus.

Best,

Michael Hicks, Principal

Parent & Student Survey

Our district is partnering with YouthTruth, a national non-profit, to survey our students, parents and staff this month regarding their school experience. I value our community’s feedback and ask parents to take a few moments to share your perspective here: http://www.ytsurvey.org/bendfamily22

For information about this survey, please visit http://youthtruthsurvey.org

Yearbook Reminders: Order your yearbook by Jan 31 to get the discounted price of $60. Full details on how to order your yearbook can be found on the Yearbook page of our website here: https://www.bend.k12.or.us/mountain.../student-life/yearbook

Semester One Finals Schedule — we will run a finals schedule during the last week of the semester (Feb 1-3) to limit the number of finals that any student will have in one day, which will provide students maximum preparation time! The schedule is linked below.

Students are encouraged to attend the study hall periods for support and extra preparation time, but are not required to. Buses will run at their normal times.

We are extremely appreciative for our SRO, officer Cashman-Caceres! She is an MV grad and does an amazing job of connecting with and supporting our students. She is a huge asset to this school community. Thank you to all of these wonderful officers for being a part of our schools!

What does a School Resource Officer do? Superintendent Steven Cook talks with longtime School Resource Officer Amy Ward from City of Bend Police Department about her day-to-day duties, how she collaborates with Bend High Principal Chris Reese, and why relationships are at the heart of everything she does.
