Men's Soccer Ties Williams, Amherst

After beginning the week with a 0-0 tie against St. Joseph's, the Mules entered their weekend with two NESCAC opponents on the docket. Saturday, the defense remained stingy against the Ephs, holding the visitors without a goal for the team's second straight shutout. Colby struggled mounting opportunities at the net, and the two foes ended the day with a 0-0 draw.

On Sunday against Amherst, Colby got off to a quick start when Colin Sullivan scored his first goal of the season in the 11th minute of the first half. Ethan Fabricant scored his third goal of the season at the beginning of the second half to spot the Mules a 2-0 lead. The Mammoths fought back and scored two late goals to level the score, and bring Colby their fifth straight tie.

Colby is currently 2-1-5, sitting in 9th place in the NESCAC standings.

Volleyball Tops Bates, Sits Atop NESCAC Standings

After dropping their first game of the season early in the week to MMA (Mariners were undefeated at the time), Colby ripped off two wins against Brandeis and Bates. The victory over the Bobcats was the third straight win over a NESCAC opponent to start the year.

First-year Sydney Sick earned NESCAC Player of the Week. She totaled 91 assists from the setter position, and is currently ranked 4th in the conference for assists/set. First-year LJ Grant continues to pace the NESCAC in kills, with her 117 kills out-pacing the second ranked player by 28 (89).

Colby is now 8-1, ranked first in NESCAC.

After Scoreless First Half, Trinity Slips Past Football

Colby took a scoreless game into the half intent on following up their opening week win against Williams with another victory, this time on the road against Trinity. The Mules found the end zone first, when quarterback Matt Hersch scored from a yard out to put Colby in front 7-0.

Trinity responded with scores on their next three drives, and used a 10-minute drive in the fourth quarter to run the clock out. Colby held only one possession in the final 17 minutes of play.

Marc Dougherty led the defense in tackles, posting a career-high nine stops. Kicker/punter Lowell Carr followed up his NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week call from week 1 with another great performance. He leads the NESCAC in average yards/punt with 44.9.

Colby is now 1-1, jammed in a six-way tie for 3rd place in the NESCAC.

Cross Country Impressive at Bowdoin Invitational

The Women's Cross Country team came away from the Bowdoin Invitational taking 4th place out of the 11 competing schools. Colby's top performers breaking the top-30 were Jenna Denaver in 23rd place and Maria DiBari in 29th.

The Men's team found similar success, placing 5th out of 12 schools. Nick Peterson cruised his way to 15th place out of the 127 competitors.

Women's Soccer Tops UMF, Battles Ephs and Mammoths

The Mules welcomed the Beavers of UMF early in the week, and despite getting behind early in the match, Colby was able to take control and run away with a 3-1 victory. Sophie Digrande tallied two goals in the win, now leading the Mules on the season with four.

Against Williams on Saturday, the Mules got on the board first when Jackie Portogallo scored on an assist by Digrande. The Ephs were able to even the score halfway through the first half and move ahead with under five minutes to play in the contest.

On Sunday, the visiting Amherst Mammoths were able to notch a 2-0 victory with two first-half goals, but Emily McMaster was stellar in goal for the Mules, tying her career-high mark of 12 saves.

Men's Tennis Battles at Middlebury, Women's Tennis Takes On ITA

The Men's Tennis team traveled to Vermont for the Middlebury Invitational. Playing in their fall season, the Mules entered bracket play for individual advancement. Senior Josh Fleishman advanced all the way to the D-Flight Finals, eventually falling to Lachie Macintosh from Tufts. Jan Wenger advanced to the semifinals of the B-Flight, falling to Simon Kauppila of Brandeis.

The Women's team entered into the ITA Regional Championship hosted by Williams College. With a remarkable count of four Mules entering the A-Flight draw, the Mules were able to come away with multiple victories in both singles and doubles competition. Maddie Omicioli and Caroline Kittle both advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation round.

Field Hockey Takes on Ephs, Mammoths Back-to-Back

Falling behind early on Saturday against the Ephs, Pernilla Shaw evened the score early in the second frame to re-energize the Mules. Williams would pull away with another score seconds before halftime followed by two goals in the third quarter.

On Sunday, the Mammoths scored first but Colby answered back when Molly Mitchell tallied her second of the season, knotting the score at one apiece at the end of the first quarter. The potent offense of Amherst created space with two goals in the second and two goals in the third, eventually taking the victory. Harri Baker had six saves in the cage for the Mules.

Colby is now 3-4, ranked 11th in the NESCAC.

Golf Competes at Bowdoin Invitational

The Colby Golf team placed 15th out of 15 competing schools at the Bowdoin Invitational this weekend. The top scorer for the Mules was once again Jacob Teszler who finished 62nd in the tournament. Shooting an 81 on Sunday, Teszler was followed closely on the day by Nick Stapleton who recorded an 82. Saturday's top performance for Colby belonged to Ryan Harper, who shot an 83.
