UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #10

Pre/K1: Warming to the new term - We have been very busy after our winter break. Learners have been excited to be back at school. We have new friends joining our classroom community and learners have been good communicators and are ready to get back to routines. Stay tuned for an exciting Term 2!
Y1: How we express ourselves - Our current unit in Year 1 is ‘how we express ourselves’ with a focus on Art. We have been planning, editing and reflecting in preparation to paint our pictures. We have also been working alongside Year 9 and 10 to research and learn about the artists Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and James Rizzi, in preparation for our ‘Living Museum’.
Y3: Exploring art - We have been learning about art and different ways to express ourselves through how people use the arts to express how they are special and different. One of the learning tasks was for students to make a piece of art and they chose from sculpture, dance, drawing and creative writing. Here is a sample of some of them:
Y5/6: Decimalising - Welcome back to a very busy and exciting term and we hope that you had a fun filled break and are all eager to commence learning and investigating. This week we have been refreshing our decimal knowledge and writing sets of instructions in our English class. We are slowly and quietly preparing for our exhibition event, which is not too far off in the future. Stay tuned!
Y9/10 class update - Year 9/10 students developed games and infographics for grade 9 students, to help them learn about the metric system and its applications.

Student success at UDIS; Eclair in Preschool

Eclair has been a fantastic performer and recently performed ‘The Grey Umbrella’ as part of children's day activities at UD town. She is demonstrating the learner profile with her being a confident risk-taker.

EAL: Spin the bottle

We began the week by sharing many exciting stories from our Christmas break and played ‘Spin the Bottle’ to practice asking and answering questions. Our learners created a snapshot of using 'Jamboard' and they were able to use their creativity by adding pictures and using sticky notes to write sentences in the past tense.
