Class 10's Learning Journey SUMMER TERM 2 - 2022/2023

Our year together has now reached an end. The Year 6 pupils are moving on to new schools while the year 5 will be moving in to their final class with us. It has been a great final half-term to end an amazing year. Here are some of the things we've been up to...

July 2023...

September 2022...

Holocaust poetry

Class 10 received an invitation to create a piece of Holocaust themed poetry that would inspire peace and help people to learn from the past – in a time when war has returned to parts of Europe. Drawing on their learning from a previous topic of ‘WW2’ all pupils could enter their poem into a competition in which runners-up and the winner would receive prizes. Pupils watched some eye-opening animated videos, recounting the experiences of children during the Holocaust before carrying out a role on the wall and some hot seating; providing the children with a clearer perspective on what they need to portray through their poetry.

TOPIC - 'MUSIC FOR FILM'

We looked at the importance that music plays in film production.

Exploring the use of Minor Drone Chords to create tension and suspense.

Science - Properties of materials. Class 10 have been testing the hardness, electrical conductivity, magnetism, elasticity, waterproofing and transparency of materials so they could compare and group them. They used their results to design a new shelter for the playground.

Year 5 Enterprise FINAL

Two teams from Class 10 were chosen to represent our school at the Enterprise finals.

PE - Our athletics focus has seen pupils working on a wide variety of events. This has included working on their technique when running, jumping and throwing.

They also applied their athletics skills to orienteering.

Pupils also had the opportunity to work on their archery skills.

Many members of Class 10 have represented our school in multiple sports this term. From football to tennis, and cross-country to cricket. We are very proud about how they behaved and applied themselves.

Sports Day was also a big success and saw all of our KS2 pupils competing at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium.

ART - barnsley perspective

Barnsley Perspective! Can you recognise the Barnsley landmark in these 'Dion Archibald' inspired art pieces?

Pupils applied themselves exceptionally to mastering drawing with a perspective.

there have been multiple important events in the school calendar this half-term.

Summer Fair, Coffee Mornings, Pride Day and JAR Awareness were but a few of these.

singing workshop

Singing workshops with the amazing Aurin Choir.

y6 Reward Day

Our Year 6 had some exceptional SATs results. They worked extremely hard throughout their time at Mapplewell to achieve all they did and we like to reward that effort...

Celebrations

As always, we have had plenty of Mapplewell Points, reading rewards, 100% attendance, 10/10 spellers and certificate winners to celebrate this term.

Goodbye to our amazing year 6 pupils. We are all so proud of you!

Welcome to Class 10!

And finally, welcome to Class 10, everyone who is joining me in September. It has been great getting to know you. Especially while covering our food technology lessons 'Dinner on a Stick'. I've been really impressed with your cooking skills.

Have a lovely Summer!

Thank you Class 10 for all your hard work again this term! Have a great time off with your family and good luck in your new classes!
