Bridgewater Chocolate pops into Westport for the holidays By Allison Gillman

Handmade, American-style chocolates with European-quality recipes and flavors. The Bridgewater Chocolate Box Shop—based in Brookfield, Connecticut—is testing the waters in Westport with a pop-up experience in celebration of the holiday season.

Each piece of chocolate is handmade with simple, yet elegant craftsmanship. The shop boasts chocolate and toffee assortments, chewy tins and bite-sized cubes among its product lines.
The focus on box assortments with hand-tied bows makes for superb and practical holiday gifts.

Owner and founder Erik Landegren, who came to the United States from Stockholm to pursue his career as a chef, opened the doors of Bridgewater Chocolate in 1995. Landegren emphasizes high-quality ingredients and the personal touch of hand-craftsmanship in his products. Both are important characteristics of the style of chocolate from his childhood that he sought to incorporate into American-style chocolate making.

Visit Bridgewater Chocolate's website to place an online order.

In addition to mouthwatering displays—and did I forget to mention free samples at the front desk!—the shop offers a simple way to place orders in-store.

Information books—distributed by the front desk—document the history of Bridgewater Chocolate, as well as the wide selection of products the shop has to offer.

The success of the pop-up will help to determine whether Bridgewater Chocolate can call downtown Westport its year-round home. Find the shop at 11 Church Ln, open weekends until Dec. 19.
