Principal's Message

Lake Pleasant Families,

We made it to September! Labor Day is always an exciting holiday for me as it means the cooler weather is on it's way shortly! I hope and trust that everyone is spending some quality time with family and friends as we celebrate the American worker.

This week was filled with exciting activities going on within our classrooms and please take a look at a few examples in the highlight section. Our students are settling into routines and making great progress through our standards. Our teachers are working hard collaborating and working together to ensure we meet the needs of all our students and some exciting work is being done.

Please continue to encourage your child to work hard, be a kind friend and do their very best each day. We are off to a great start and thank you for the consistent support throughout the year!

Have a great week Silverhawks,

Aaron Bagwell

WORLD DUCHENNE AWARENESS DAY

In support of one of our Silverhawk's who is battling this affliction we are asking our school community to consider wearing RED on Wednesday, September 7th.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic condition caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene, which prevent production of a vital muscle protein called dystrophin.

People living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy experience progressive muscle weakness and typically need to use a powered wheelchair from their early teens. The heart and breathing muscles are eventually affected and most will require a ventilator in their twenties; life expectancy is around 30 years but has improved with palliative care developments.

There is no cure (yet).

LAKE PLEASANT REMEMBERS 9/11

A look at flags used by Americans from 1774-1865.

Since Sunday, September 11, is Patriot Day, we thought it would be nice at Lake Pleasant Elementary to take a look at flags used in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the Civil War. The history of the American flag will be discussed as well. A display will be done in the Multi-Purpose Room by our amazing 8th Grade Social Studies teacher Mr. Beltram on Friday, September 9, 2022.

We should begin around 8:20 in the Cafeteria and community members are welcome to be part of the flag display and can stay when assembly is completed.

A unique Blended Learning 4th Grade Math Lesson

Our 4th graders from Mrs. Hager had a lesson on place value, in particular writing numbers in expanded form and word form. Students were given a number and tasked to write it in word form, and then explain how they used place value and the periods to write the number through a program called Flip. What a great example of how our new devices can be used to give students creative ways to show their understanding in different creative ways!
