Reflections from the Acting Head

What a happy, busy and exciting start to the new academic year! My thanks go to the staff for settling the children so swiftly and positively into their new routines and to our families for your support, trust and partnership. It was a great pleasure to see so many of you at the Curriculum Evenings this week as we began to lay the foundations and build those crucial home/school relationships for a successful year ahead.

Teamwork has been much in evidence these last two weeks in the classroom and outside, along with plenty of energy and focus. I am very proud of all the children and their good manners, friendliness and kindness towards others, which I know will continue over the weeks and months to come. I have had wonderful conversations this week with our youngest children as they were playing and exploring in the Pre Prep, with Year 3 debating the finer points of table football and with older children who were enthusing about books, their World War 2 topic and today's netball fixture, to name but a few - what a joy!

Enjoy a happy and relaxing weekend, and here's to a fabulous, action-packed and rewarding term ahead.

Lower Foundation

Lower Foundation

Lower Foundation have had a wonderful first week and the teachers are so proud of how well the children have settled into school life and routine. The children are finding their feet, exploring their new surroundings and making new friendships with their peers.

Well done everyone!

Upper Foundation

Upper Foundation

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Curriculum Evening this week. It was a lovely way of getting to know you, and we hope you found the information useful. If you do have any further questions, please do contact us at any time. We can’t believe how well the children have all settled; it has been such a fantastic start to the year.

This week we have been looking at the families and identifying different family members. The children have made drawings and talked about their family members. We have also been talking about how everyone is different and special, through stories and discussion. The children are currently being assessed, so teachers have a good idea of how each child learns, what they already know and what their next steps are.

Next week, we will continue the focus of Ourselves, looking at My Body, My Senses and My Feelings. If you have any books relating to the topic, please send them in (named) to share. Please also link show and tell items to this subject. Thank you. Please could you discuss your home address with your child, in preparation for the following weeks, i.e. house number, street name.

Year 1

Year 1

The Year one children have settled beautifully into Key Stage 1.

In Year 1 the children participated in a range of team building activities. They worked as a group to create a tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows. The children also became fashion designers during an activity where they worked as a group to create an outfit out of newspaper and masking tape. The children created a range of themed outfits such as a suit of armor for a knight or a regal dress fit for a princess. The children also took part in a physical quiz where they had a chance to learn about their Year 1 peers.

Year 2

Alice in Wonderland

This week during Art in Year 2 we have made crazy Wonderland signs to support our English work on Alice in Wonderland. Can you tell which way Alice should go?

Science

This week during Science, we looked at different objects and discussed which materials they were made from. We also tried to describe what they looked and felt like. Then we sorted them into groups. Can you work out how we sorted them?

Team Building

Last weeks Years 1-6 took part in a variety of team building activities. Everyone had lots and lots of fun!

The Big Bling Frame

Neslihan Jones in 6JW brought in these amazing paintings for the Big Bling Frame this week. She made them with her Dad over the summer, whilst her mum was out! Neslihan explained that it was quite a messy but fun process, covering the canvases with running acrylic paint and drawing into the paint with a fork. Fortunately, she and her Dad managed not to get any paint on the carpet!

The rest of us have enjoyed all the amazing colours and imagining places we might see such vibrant design.

Thank you to Neslihan (and her Dad) for brightening up our Art Studio this week.

Maths Games Club

Maths Games Club is on Mondays after school until 4.30pm.

We started off this week with using some construction toys and making as many different 3D shapes as we could. Look at what we achieved!

This week's Friday Maths Challenge

Next week in Music...

The Composer of the Week sees us jetting off to Japan (possibly bumping into Mrs Barrett-Nnochiri on the way)!

Koji Kondo has worked for Nintendo since the 80s and helped to give birth to video game music as a genre. He composed incredible soundtracks for classic games, such as Super Mario and the Legend of Zelda series.

Streatham and Clapham Prep School's Year 5 Versatility Netball Tournament

Congratulations to the U10 Netball Team, who took part in the Streatham and Clapham's Versatility Netball Tournament on Thursday. The girls played extremely well and even finished 3rd (with bronze medals)!

9 local schools took part in this tournament and, out of the 8 matches played, the results were: won 2, 5 drawn and only one loss. What a great achievement and super start to the netball season.

A big well done to Izzy who received the 'most versatile player' from our team award!
