Partners on Board : Creating an Ocean of Possibilities AI on a Social Mission 2021

Our partners support the use of AI for the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals by Start-ups, Civil Society Organizations and academia, 365 days a year.

Over the past 4 years, together with our partners, we've reached hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, engaging all sectors into the co-construction of sustainable and inclusive Digital Societies. AI Impact Alliance's projects contribute to digital justice and equitable futures for all, such as PearAI, an algorithmic art research and creation 2 year initiative addressing gender bias in AI.

This year, our AI experts will focus on Smart Oceans and Gender Equality in Digital Economies, with, as usual, a cross-disciplinary perspectives. Join and support a deep-dive into local and global data sharing and governance, sustainable smart oceans, gender equality in natural resource management, and cultural intelligence for innovation.

A unique space for constructive dialogue between artists, civil society, NGOs, industry, academia and government. Our participants are diverse by design, and come from AI, science, cultural and digital policy.

AIOASM's Founding President, Valentine Goddard, is a lawyer, certified mediator, inter-arts curator, and an internationally recognized United Nations expert on AI (ethics, social impact, digital policy and governance). Why are these questions critical in 2021?

Why has Gender Equality become more urgent than ever to address? The pandemic has accelerated digital transformation, for the best and the worst. As we celebrate its benefits, we must move forward with eyes wide open. Digital Economies has shown to deepen gender and regional inequalities. Let's address issues at the core of economic recovery strategies, and work together to ensure Inclusive Digital Futures.

Why focus on Smart Oceans? Global investment in AI is forecasted to reach nearly $98 billion by 2023. In the Saint—Laurence River alone, Quebec has announced close to $1 billion dollars to create a “Smart Corridor.” By the year 2030, the application of AI to the agriculture, energy, transportation, and maritime sectors would result in gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.4% in the best-case scenario, which equates to a potential gain of US$5.2 trillion, according to this report from PWC and Microsoft. Economic growth must go hand in hand with Sustainable Development Goals. The questions addressed in this panel are fundamental to Natural Resource Management in Digital Economies.
