TMBS News December 2022

Fright Fest 2022

On 27th October, the Year 7s took to the dance floor to celebrate their first half term in true Halloween style! They enjoyed poisonous punch, hell-fire hot dogs with freaky fries and cakes from the cauldron. Some adorned themselves with dark art from the tattoo parlour while others braved the ghost tour taking their frightful experiences home with them.

Staff and students managed to raise a monstrous £750 for the Fundraising Committee which will help departments expand their facilities and support enrichment opportunities for our students.

Remembrance Parade

Ellis Flower-Jones and Jack Plumbley, both in Year 11, were lucky enough to be selected to represent Dr Luke Evans MP at the Market Bosworth Remembrance Parade last month. Ellis and Jack marched with the VIPs through the village and also accompanied them at the church service. Shortly after 11:00am they were then called forward to lay a wreath on behalf of Dr Luke Evans at the War Memorial Cross.

Ellis and Jack did a fantastic job and represented TMBS and their families with great honour and pride. A few words from them both:

“I was really grateful that I was chosen and I was very proud to take part in this event. I felt very nervous to begin with but I became less nervous once the wreath was laid” Jack.
“It was a great honour and if anyone ever gets the chance to do anything to represent something of importance, then they should most definitely do so.” Ellis.

A big thanks to both their families for capturing these amazing photos. We are sure they will be treasured forever.

Children in Need 2022 - A Huge Success!

Without fail the students of TMBS never disappoint when it comes to a fundraising event for an amazing charity and this year was no different. Every year the bar is set higher and higher in the amount raised and we know that this year the cost of living crisis is making it harder for everyone to support charities, when we all know that charity begins at home. It makes this year even more special to see the kindness and generosity of the students, parents and carers of TMBS, who really are a credit to us all.

Year 3 of the TMBS Ramble was the most successful afternoon so far. It was lovely to see those smiling faces making their way around the field, whether they were running, walking, singing or dancing as they went, it was certainly helped by the beautiful weather - obviously ordered especially for the occasion!

Top runners on the day were Archie Kelsey, Ethan Bhuller, Oliver Crone & Martha Moore. Yr 7 were an absolute credit to Mrs Holmes, who was also the driving force behind this year’s TMBS Children in Need Choir song - We’re all in this together’ from High School Musical, that was shared with the whole school during tutor time on the morning of Children In Need. A massive thank you to Mrs Holmes and her team of helpers who took this and ran with it, producing amazing results that were enjoyed by all.

Our Yr 8 tutor groups took on the second year of the Inter-form Bake Sale, with planning and preparation going on in the weeks leading up to the event. Again, thank you for the support from home for this and Yr 8 did an amazing job with the results for the most money raised being:

Highest amount raised by 8D £161.05, followed by 8E £136.36 and 8A with £114.10. A massive thank you to all the other tutor groups who added to the total.

Non-uniform day is always a popular event and this year we were graced with the presence of three Percy Pigs from Oliver Rockell, Jack Davies & Louis Catley as well as Harry Maguire, aka, Morgan D’Arcy. Loved the outfits boys!!!

Thank you all for your support and amazing efforts on the day that raised a staggering £2257.64, all of which will go directly to Children in Need.

Student Footprint Makes Their Mark

Recently, Student Footprint met with Amy Casey of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to share their achievements and discuss ways in which they could further contribute to a net zero future.

She invited them to help the local community in a tree planting event which will support the environment by absorbing Co2. Watch this space!

Winter is Coming! Gardening Club Prepares!

Gardening Club was launched at the start of the year and despite bad weather, has only missed 1 session! The group has evolved with some students coming every week without fail and some dipping in and out depending on how much time they have to spare. Tasks include trimming, planting, digging, sweeping up leaves, relocating pots and harvesting vegetables. Mostly we enjoy being outside and connecting with nature - a much needed balm for the soul :)

We would like to decorate the space with some solar lights and maybe a few hardy Christmas things, so would ask that staff and parents dig out any old items they wish to donate and send them in to Miss Hartland to use over the coming weeks!

Thanks in advance! The Gardening Club

Book Club Buzz

This term TMBS’ brand new Book Club kicked off by reading (and finishing) The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. The book is a fabulous mystery full of twists, turns and puzzles and Book Club have really enjoyed discussing characters, plots and some outrageous theories! We cannot wait for the Spring term to bring us a book just as fun as this one.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Library welcomed the Scholastic Book Fair for a week in December where students and staff snatched up some fabulous books to help raise a whopping £600 in free books for the school from Scholastic! This money will be used to help fill the Library shelves with the latest and greatest books for our students.

Some students also took part in the Build a Bookmark competition where they had to design a bookmark to be in with a chance of winning a £5 voucher to the Book Fair. So a big congratulations to our five winners; Danxi Lin, Dylan Cooper, Annabelle Hollingsworth, Lily Wooliscroft and Evie Rose-Killick for their creativity and artistry!

Netball Season 2022

The Netball season for 2022/23 has now come to an end but what an amazing turnout we have had yet again this year. It is amazing to see so many students committing to after school clubs and the Netball and Football are always extremely popular.

Students were selected to compete in the Hinckley and Bosworth central venue tournaments the results of which were as follows:

  • Year 11 - 1st
  • Year 10 - 3rd
  • Year 9 - 2nd
  • Year 8 - 1st
  • Year 7 - 2nd

For the second year running the current Year 8 team won their tournament, that this year saw them having to then play off against St Martins, which after a tough game was the end of this year's Netball season for them. We wish St Martins good luck in their next games. Unfortunately the Year 11 tournament ended after the level 2 tournament. There is no county progression for this age group.

All students who attended training were offered the opportunity to play competitive fixtures this year and it was fantastic to see so many taking up that opportunity. We are aiming to go paperless and therefore make use of Google Classroom for fixture information so please ensure that students are checking these when they have been informed that a classroom has been created for a club, as all relevant information will be put on there. We look forward to seeing students continue to commit to after school clubs throughout the year, it’s never too late to get involved.

Indoor Athletics

On Tuesday 29th November, 22 Year 7 and 8 students from TMBS attended the Sports Hall Athletics level 2 competition at Hinckley Leisure Centre.

Throughout Year 7 all students cover a baseline assessment unit of work where they get times and distances in a variety of Sports Hall Athletics events including 2, 4 and 6 lap races, shot put, standing long jump, vertical jump and standing triple jump. These results are then recorded and a leader board displayed in the PE area.

These results help the PE department to select the school teams. Congratulations to the students who were selected this year. They included:

Year 8 student Tia is currently appearing in panto in Sleeping Beauty. This is her very first panto and she is absolutely loving it! If you want to see Tia in action, you can see the show at the Century Theatre in Coalville and Benn Hall, Rugby.

Archie's Sleepover Update

You may remember in the last newsletter we told you about Archie, who was aiming to sleep in a tent in his garden for a whole year to raise funds for the DEC Pakistan floods appeal. Well, Archie's mum recently gave us an update on his progress:

He has now managed to pass the £1000 mark! This is far more than he ever expected - he was aiming for £100. He’s still out there with about a million blankets, hats, hot water bottles and many layers - he says he’s a bit chilly but I think if he has any more layers he might suffocate!

We are so proud of Archie's commitment and resilience in persevering with his endeavour. If you would like to support Archie here is the link for his Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/archiesbigsleepout?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=archiesbigsleepout&utm_campaign=pfp-share&utm_term=6463dc08beb04eb3940298aa4d28ac8e&fbclid=IwAR3uaGvMRTwt619PoiXtPKBuT8X3t8RhdwTIbNIW2Db307apZGnlRnw65UY

New Canteen Menus

Please see below for the new menu cycles for the New Year. Please ensure your child's account is always in credit as this ensures service runs a lot smoother and does not cause unnecessary disappointment or delays. To use the catering service your child needs a catering card. Replacement cards are charged at £2.25, so please keep them safe over the holidays!

Lost Property

The TMBS Pillars of Character Education promote Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Wisdom. As part of this we encourage students to be responsible for their own belongings. We appreciate how expensive and frustrating it is to replace missing school uniform, bags, coats and equipment. TMBS cannot accept responsibility for any items lost by a student, but we will do our utmost to reunite items with their owners. You would be surprised by the amount of lost property we acquire at school which we are unable to return because it isn’t labelled.

Please ensure all items of uniform, coats, shoes, bags and equipment (including pencil cases, water bottles, aprons and ingredients) are clearly labelled with the student's name. Labelling is very easy to do; simply writing your child’s full name and surname on their items with a laundry marker pen or permanent marker pen will help them to reclaim lost items. Just remember that over time the writing will gradually fade, so please check regularly to make sure that the name can be read.

In the unfortunate event that a student does lose something, they should:

  • Visit the last area they were in. If the item is not there, they should retrace their steps and check all classrooms/areas that they have been in that day.
  • If they have been unable to find their lost item, they should go to the lost property area on the design corridor. Please note that it may take a few days before lost items are placed there.

At the end of each full term, the lost property contents will be emptied and items will either be recycled for use by TMBS students, donated to charity or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

School trousers

We would be very grateful to have spare trousers so that they can be loaned out to students in emergencies. If you have any good quality school trousers that have been outgrown then please bring them to school reception.

Hardship Fund

We may be able to help if you are struggling financially and need to buy uniform. Please contact the school office to find out more.
