Encourage each other and build each other up
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness
Message from the Head...
This term has been another action packed one! We started off with the wonderful and inspiring visit from Paul Sturgess, worked in our Values Families for our first ever Spirituality day which focused on making connections with each other and God's creations, had a few Bank Holidays, celebrated the coronation of King Charles III, KS1 visited Silverstone Museum, Year 6 completed their SATs, Year 2s completed their missions and we finished the term with our most successful May Day Gala which really reflected how wonderful Team Isham is! We look forward to next term as we have another little surprise for the children, school photos, KS2 visit to the National History Museum, an EYFS stay and play, shuffle up morning, whole school beach trip to Hunstanton and the Year 6 leavers.
Thank you as always for your continued support and enjoy the half term break!
Encourage each other and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Staffing Update
As you are aware Mr Osler was seconded from another school within the Trust to teach at Isham Primary till the end of this academic year. Mr Osler will return to his school for the new academic year. He has been a wonderful asset to Team Isham and we wish him every success as he continues his teaching journey. The children and staff have enjoyed working with Mr Osler. We will also be saying goodbye to Miss Balchin, who will continue her teaching career in a new school setting and wish her every success too!
This term, we have been successful in appointing two new wonderful and experienced teachers who will be joining Team Isham in September. We will be welcoming Mrs Jo Austin, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to KS1 and has a particular love for reading, outdoor learning and gardening! We are also excited to be welcoming Mrs Laura Graham to Team Isham who is also a fabulous, experienced teacher and is passionate about the Sports, Arts and Enrichment opportunities. Both new teachers will start this September! We are also excited to welcome back Mrs Liz Odell who over this year has been popping in to work with the children.
Classes and staffing will be as follows:
- EYFS - Mrs Hughes; supported by Miss Sturgess and Mrs Farmiloe
- Year 1 & 2 - Mrs Austin; supported by Miss Sturgess and Mrs Humphrey
- Year 3 & 4 - Miss Everson; supported by Mrs Kraftl
- Year 5 & 6 - Mrs Odell and Mrs Graham; supported by Ms Sutherland and Mrs Tattersdale
Reverend Denise - Swimming the Chanel
Our amazing vicar, Reverend Denise, will be swimming the Channel very soon! Please click on the link below to see her JustGiving page for her English Channel swim if anyone would like to sponsor her. Reverend Denise is raising money for the RNLI and the Centre for Autism and Theology: Reverend Denise: Just Giving Page
"This June a group of friends and I are swimming the English Channel as a relay. I never ask for sponsorship for any of my swims but as this one is quite special I thought I would raise some money whilst dodging the P&O ferries and container ships swimming to France.
I'm raising money for two things. One is the Centre for Autism and Theology of which I am part of, and the other is for the RNLI in Porthcawl."
Pupil Achievement - Teacher Awards
EYFS/Reception - Florence - for her fabulous information card about starfish.

School Office Hours
The school office hours are from 8:30am until 3:30pm. Please note the office is closed from 12:30pm - 1pm for lunch break. You can email office@isham.pdet.org.uk outside of these hours.
Reporting your child's absence
All absences need to be phoned in to the school office which is open from 8.30am. Please do not email your child's teacher to report an absence. We are looking into updating our system with a voicemail system if you ring in earlier! We'll keep you posted when we get this system in place.
Doctor's/Dentist Appointments - We are now required to see evidence of all medical appointments, this can be a text message, email or letter.
Lateness - If you are late dropping your child off to school, please make sure they are safely handed over onto the school premises - please do not leave them to walk down the road and through the gate unattended.
Isham Village Hall - Parking
Please could we ask parents to be mindful when parking outside the village hall. Please leave the village hall bin in its place when it is on the street, so that it can be seen by the bin collectors and emptied.
In addition to this, parking over the gate causes concern if someone inside is unable to get out during an Emergency or just to access the space, so we politely ask parents to be considerate, thank you.
On behalf of Isham village hall trustees
Parking at School & One-Way System
We have a voluntary one-way system during drop-off and pick-up times. We politely ask that parents enter down Church Street and then follow the road up and out through Middle Street.
Please do not drop-off children outside the school gate in the middle of the road as this is unsafe/dangerous and also blocks the road for other road users.
Please be careful and considerate to pedestrians when driving down Church Street at drop-off/pick-up. Please do not mount the pavements and be mindful of your speed.
Parents can park in a number of places around school:
- The Sorrels
- Fairfield Road
- At the bottom of Church Street, near The Lilacs
On the opposite side of the road to school, against the wall, on Church Street, not opposite zigzags
Please park considerately, please do not block driveways, park on pavement/corners/zigzags/staff car park entrance.
Thank you for your support in keeping everyone safe.
Attendance
Poor punctuality can lead to your child…
- Feeling embarrassed in front of their friends
- Missing the beginning of vital lessons making them fall behind
- Missing important instructions for the rest of the school day
- Learning bad habits which could affect their employability in the future.
Please work with us to provide your child with the best chances of learning by ensuring that they are in school every day and on time
Isham CE Primary School - Attendance 22nd - 26th May 2023
Parents/Carers with any Concerns - Please phone to make an appointment
We urge parents/carers with any concerns regarding the provision made for their child to speak to the school as soon as possible and, in the first instance, to the class teacher by making an appointment through the school office, (parents cannot 'drop in' to speak to a teacher or Headteacher). If parents / carers feel their child's needs are still not being met they should make an appointment to see the Headteacher. If concerns are still unresolved parents / carers may wish to engage with PDET’s Complaints policy procedures.
School Uniform
School PE Kit - Please go to our school website for the school PE kit expectations: https://www.ishamprimary.org.uk/policies-documents/ The PE kit for both girls and boys is a black sports t-shirt, black shorts or skorts, bottle green hoody, trainers and black tracksuit bottoms.
Trainers - Trainers are to be worn for PE and brought in for non-PE days so they can safely complete the daily mile. Children should not be coming to school in trainers and wearing them for the school day.
Nail Varnish - As part of our school uniform policy, children should not be coming to school wearing nail varnish.

Our Safeguarding Vision
Isham CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. Our school has a child centred and co-ordinated approach to safeguarding. Consequently, safeguarding and child protection is at the forefront of everything we do. We ensure systems are in place that are well promoted, easily understood and easily accessible for children to confidently report any form of abuse or neglect, knowing their concerns will be treated seriously, and knowing they can safely express their views and give feedback.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads
If you believe that a child in our school may be at risk, please talk to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or one of the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. These are:
Miss Alexandra Price (Headteacher and Lead DSL) - a.price@isham.pdet.org.uk
Mrs Helen Hughes (Deputy Safeguarding Lead) - h.hughes@isham.pdet.org.uk
If you are worried about a child outside of school time, you can call the local Multi Agency Support Hub (MASH) for advice (anonymously if needs be) on 0300 126 7000 (option 1).
Wellbeing
Wellbeing Activities and Ideas for Parents
- Mindful breathing can be a good place to start regulating and recognising breathing patterns. Mindful breathing and colour activities can help slow down the pace of the day and enjoy some reflection time.
- Going out for a walk is a great way to reset and enjoy nature. Why not try a sound walk together and let the sounds of nature give your walk a purpose?
- Use Daily Reflection Journal Pages to help learn how to reflect on a days activities.
- Interaction: Children need to connect, so build connections with people around you. Stay in touch with family and friends in person or via video chat.
- Energy: Children need to be active, so help boost your energy and mood by doing something active.
- Mindfulness: Children need to take notice so encourage curiosity about the world and savour the moment.
- Discovery: It's important to keep learning, so learn something new to boost confidence. Consider taking virtual tours - for example, check out the animal cameras at places like the Edinburgh Zoo. Kids can use this to then create their own animal portraits.
- Be Creative: Find time to paint, make, sing or dance on your own or with another person.

Sporting Figures
We are delighted to share some truly positive news about one of our pupils, Oliver, who has been successfully signed up to Northampton Town Football Club!! They have only signed 6 children so it’s a massive achievement from the thousands of boys who play football within a hour away from Northampton Town (that’s the catchment area for football academies).
Isham School Summer Show
Roald Dahl's adaptation of Goldilocks and the Three Bears
At present our Summer Show has been booked to take place at the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering on 28th June. It will involve all children and it will be performed on one night only. The show is scheduled to start at 6:30pm and will aim to finish for 8pm. Further details on tickets, pricing and pick-up times will be confirmed in the first week back after half term.
School Sporting Update
Yet again, we have been feeling left disappointed with our current Sports Partnership and the subsequent negative impact this has had on our children to be able to engage in wider sports participation. As mentioned in previous newsletters, during this academic year, we have had to contend with short notice changes of venues, short notice changes of dates and then cancellations with no rescheduling. As you are aware, a school term is very busy and short notice changes can not always be accommodated.
For next term, we had signed up to a KS2 athletics events and a KS2 invasion festival. The KS2 athletics event now has been rescheduled from the 21st June to now the 28th June which clashes with our Summer Show. We purposely booked the Summer Show for after the initial proposed athletics date of the 21st June. Secondly, the KS2 invasion festival has been cancelled but with no planned rescheduled date.
We have already expressed our disappointment with this year's sports partnership and wanted to make you aware of next term's events so you have clarity on the situation we have been faced with as a school.
National Online Safety release a weekly guide, #Wake up Wednesday and aim to cover all major social media platforms, apps and issues that children encounter online. This aims to help empower parents with the knowledge to protect their children from the dangers of the internet.
Technology changes at such a rapid pace that it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends. The resources below are an invaluable way of making sure you know as much as your children. You are the first line of defence in keeping your children safe online – our aim is to encourage and support you to become involved in this process so that they are receiving the best protection they can – you can’t eliminate the dangers but you can reduce them!
