Holy Name Cathedral was built in 1874. It replaced the Cathedral of Saint Mary and the Church of the Holy Name after they were dsetroyed in the Chicago Fire.

Interesting Facts 

  • The church's windows are abstract strained glass windows that were made in Milan, Italy. Near the entrance, the winters by the altar are seen as dark red and blue. But, as you move closer to them they turn white and gold.
  • The doors possess a hydraulic system that allows them to be pushed open with a single finger
  • A fire broke out on the roof in 2009 during the renovation of Holy Name Cathedral
