Iowa Western earns second consecutive championship
Pittsburg, KS - After claiming its first-ever championship just one year ago, Iowa Western returns as the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field champions. The Reivers dominated the competition from start to finish, posting 160 points, the only team to break 100 in this years championship.
The women posted an impressive 58 points on the first day of the championship and kept the pedal on the medal heading into day two. The exciting day was concluded by a championship title in the exciting 4x400.

Iowa Western had seven first-place finishes overall in the 400-meter dash, the one-mile run, the high-jump, the 3000-meter run, the pentathlon, the 5000-meter run and capped it off with a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
Key contributors included Hilda who took first in the one-mile run, 3000-meter run, and the 5000-meter run, gaining the 30 points for Iowa Western. Mercy Biwott earned second in the 3000-meter run, Nickisha Pryce placed second in the 400-meter dash, and Antonio Sealy took second in the lengthy pentathlon.
Hilda Chebet described in one word: Unstoppable
Freshman Hilda Chebet stood out among the competition as she contributed 38 of the team's 160 overall points throughout the two-day event in Pittsburg. Chebet left her mark at the Robert W. Plaster Center in just her first-ever NJCAA indoor championship event.
Chebet won the 3000-meter run, the 5000-meter run, and the one mile, along with a second-place finish in the 1000-meter run. Her performance in the mile was a PR with an impressive time of 5:02.33.
New Mexico finishes as runner-up with 98 points
The Thunderbirds had one first-place finish in the 600-meter dash, courtesy of Maria Simanca who finished with a time of 1:32.41 . They also earned second-place finishes in the 5000-meter run, the pentathlon, and the 60-meter dash.
In addition to the 60-meter hurdles, Hannah Connell placed eighth in the 60-meter dash. In the women's 1000, Rosalie Fish clocked in at 3:09.10, just shy of her personal best to place seventh overall.
