Black Mountain Elementary School Preparing students for the global stage

Vote for CCUSD until 5/18 at noon

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8-12 and we want to be sure that ALL of our staff members feel the love and appreciation! Mr. Owsley will be playing a little bingo game throughout the week with staff members and we would like to have enough gift cards on hand for EVERYONE to be a winner. Any amount and vendor will do. The more variety the better! Please drop off (or have your student drop off) with Mrs. Howard in the front office by Monday 5/8/23. THANK YOU for your generosity!

Do you know what's on your child's back to school supply list for next year? 1st Day school Supplies does! This year, buy early and save up to 30% over shopping at big box stores like Target, Walmart and even Amazon. 1st Day School Supplies give our students only the brand names that our teachers trust and respect like Ticonderoga, Crayola, Elmer's and Clorox. So, what are you waiting for? Buy early and save!

Current data draws a clear correlation between increased social media use and mental health. Experts are pleading with parents to remove apps such as TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram from their child’s phone. It is time that we parents help our kids to discover life beyond a screen, a life of physical play and discovery, a life free from the ever-present social pressures that a cell phone brings. It’s time to take childhood back.

This is easier said than done. Our kids are involved in many activities, we are often pulled in a thousand directions, and cell phones are convenient. There are options that keep us from being stuck between choosing what is healthy for our kids and making sure we can contact them when needed. Here is one options:

“Encourage your children to walk or ride bicycles to and from school at the earliest ages possible, consistent with local circumstances of distance, traffic, and crime. It may help you to "let go" if you get them the wonderful Gizmo Watch. It lets the child call and be called by just 10 phone numbers, and it lets you see where the child is on a map.” https://www.thecoddling.com/wiser-kids
