Rhode island Colony Founded 1636 Hannah hignite

Roger Williams was the founder of the Rhode Island colony. He was a Puritan dissident which means he believed that you could worship in any way that you wanted. He started the colony because he was banned from the Massachusetts in 1635 because of beliefs.

Unlike the rest of the New England colonies Rhode Island believed in religious freedom. Rhode Island was a place that Puritan dissidents went to practice the religion they wanted to practice. It was a place of many different cultures.

The Rhode Island colony had rolling hills and poor farmland. It had mild summers with long, cold winters. The colony had less disease due to its long, cold winter

Most people made their living by fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding. Whale oil was a very valuable resource. Although farming was difficult they still planted corn, pumpkins, rye, squash, and beans.
