Cultivating Parent Engagement

Parents can help their high school child succeed by keeping up-to-date with teachers, helping students plan what classes to take, and establishing goals for the future. Encouragement and support is key. We can all help make a difference.

All Grade Levels 9th - 12th Corner:

Calendar of Events: Some of the events are listed for Juniors/Seniors and some are for Freshmen/Sophomores. These are really great events for students to have exposure to various colleges, campuses, and programs! Please encourage your child to attend and/or inquire with Mrs. Dotson or Mrs. Uresti here at SHS.
Attendance is absolutely important. Students that miss more than 9 days in a semester may lose course credits if they do not attend hours in the morning/afterschool or on designated Saturdays to make up the hours missed. If a student makes a "100" on a course for the year in the report card, the student can still fail the course due to excessive absences and would be required to make up the hours to receive the credit or they will be required to retake the course the following year even if they passed it with a "100".
Every student should take the TSI college entrance exam (Texas Success Initiative). It is an exam used for college placement that measures college readiness in reading, writing, and math with testing 20-25 items per section. Encourage your child to take this exam even if they decide not to attend college.

12th Grade Corner:

Seniors, if you are interested in a campus tour to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, please sign up soon! QR code to register is attached to the flyer below! If interested, please sign up on the form attached! Permission slips can be picked up in Ms. Dotson's or Mrs. Uresti's office.

Our Spanish classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with hands displaying researched material of their own last name! Pretty cool...I tried to find my own last name...guess I will have to do my own homework.
Celebrations! Celebrate small wins, proudly, loudly, and often!
We celebrated National Custodians' Day with gift baskets from our departments. Just a small token of appreciation for our custodial staff for making SHS sparkle and shine! Thank you staff and custodians for making SHS the best place to be!

Our students enjoyed the homecoming theme of "Bag the Bearkats" anything but a backpack...and some students were pretty creative.
The spirit of Sinton Pirates runs strong and BIG! Our Ag Barn-sized mum was created by our Ag Department teachers and students. If mums are expensive, then this one must cost a fortune! Hmm...maybe an auction fundraiser... :)

The Homecoming parade and Burning of the S ended with the Sinton tradition of the Powder Puff game between the Juniors and Seniors! OUR VISION

Reminders:

  • Please call SHS for any COVID related issues.
  • Please continue to call the campus when your child will be absent.
  • The most effective way to prevent the spread of germs and staying healthy is to wash our hands. Please continue to encourage your child to wash their hands frequently especially after using the restroom and after eating lunch.
  • Every student should take the TSI college entrance exam (Texas Success Initiative). It is an exam used for college placement that measures college readiness in reading, writing, and math with testing 20-25 items per section. Encourage your child to take this exam even if they decide not to attend college.
  • We need seniors to have 100% completion of FAFSA. We currently have about 25% of seniors that have completed it. Parents of seniors, please help us have 100% completion by encouraging your senior to complete the application and have the parent part completed, as well. Even if you think you or your senior will not qualify, it is the single most important thing you can do to get money for college. It's the gateway to more than $150 billion in college grants, work-study funds, and federal student loans, as well as certain state-based aid.
