  • We have all been profoundly moved by the recent tragedies in Turkey and Syria with earthquakes that have killed in excess of 47,000 people. A group of TAMIU professors will present a special awareness panel "Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief Effort," tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the Student Center 236 (Auditorium) at 11 a.m. will offer insight into the tremendous current and long-term impacts of the earthquakes, address the challenge of rebuilding, and help underscore the importance of charitable assistance.

  • Friday, March 3 The Dallas Black Dance Theatre will return to TAMIU for a special performance at the CFPA Theatre at 8 p.m. Recognized as the ninth-largest contemporary modern dance company in the US, DBDT has performed worldwide for over 4.5 million patrons and some 2.7 million students across 31 states and 16 countries. Friday’s performance is hosted by the University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Saturday, March 4TAMIU hosts its Area Preview Day, welcoming students from Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley, and beyond. Dedicated buses will bring students and their parents here from McAllen, Harlingen and Rio Grande City. Find out more.

  • Wednesday, March 8 -- An exploration of globalization and what major manufacturing and supply chains mean to the United States and its neighbors is the focus of the next IBC Bank and Commerce Bank 2022-2023 Keynote Speaker Series. Dr. Shannon K. O'Neil, Vice President of Studies and Nelson and David Rockefeller Senior Fellow for Latin America Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, will present her lecture, "The Globalization Myth: Why Regions Matter,” in the Student Center Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. It’s free and open to the public. In addition to the in-person lecture, a livestream of the event is available via Webex. Participants can visit https://go.tamiu.edu/oneil to register.
  • Thursday, March 9 -- Take a look into TAMIU’s future in five years, 15 years, and beyond as we unveil our Master Plan for the University. Two information sessions are scheduled in the Student Center Ballroom for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The first is from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and the second from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Please join us.
  • Monday, March 20 -- A remarkable and enduring friendship anchors a historic bridged art exhibition coming to Laredo that spans two art spaces, one at TAMIU’s CFPA Gallery and the other at the Laredo Center for the Arts downtown. “Ways of Seeing: One Exhibit, Two Spaces,” will feature artists and friends Eric Avery, M.D., and Sue Coe, and includes treasured gifts shared and built by the two over their 40-year-plus friendship.
  • Later this month, for the second year in a row, The Human Library, an interactive event that focuses on holding personal conversations that challenge stigmas and stereotypes, returns to TAMIU. Find out all about it.
  • TAMIU’s A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business provides free tax preparation assistance through the Voluntary Taxpayer Assistance (VITA) Program for qualified individuals in Webb and Zapata Counties through Tuesday, April 18 in TAMIU's Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 126. Find out more.

Spring 2023 Graduation Application Deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 28

FYI, Dustdevils! The deadline to apply for Spring 2023 Graduation is Tuesday, Feb. 28 online via Uconnect.

How do I apply for graduation?

  1. Log in to Uconnect by using your NetID and password.
  2. Click on the "My Records" icon.
  3. Select the "Academic Records" option.
  4. Click on the "Graduation Application" option on your left side menu.
  5. Follow the steps located towards the top of the page on each of the pages you navigate through.

TAMIU Professors Spearhead Information and Charity Awareness Panel for Earthquake Victims

The discussion, "Turkey-Syria Earthquake Relief Effort," is free of charge and open to the public. TAMIU Spring Dance Days Offer a Free Dance Workshop Saturday

Aspiring dancers are invited to attend a series of free workshops, "Spring Dance Days," hosted by University Dance faculty members. Workshops will be offered on Saturday, March 4, 2023, and Saturday, April 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will have the unique opportunity to learn about TAMIU’s Dance program and interact with its renowned Dance faculty members, Jee Eun-Ahn and Timothy Rubel.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre Returns to TAMIU March 3

Returning for the fourth year in a row, the critically acclaimed Dallas Black Dance Theatre comes to TAMIU Friday, March 3, at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre at 8 p.m. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.

TAMIU Area Preview Day Set for Saturday, March 4 

Prospective students interested in learning more about TAMIU are invited to attend an Area Preview Day Saturday, March 4, from 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Area Preview Day welcomes students from Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

Students coming from the Rio Grande Valley can take advantage of the Dusty Express Bus Pass that will transport students, parents and school officials for free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must complete an Eventbrite RSVP at https://go.tamiu.edu/previewday-rsvp and select from the following three locations:

  • McAllen (McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Boulevard, McAllen, TX 78501)
  • Harlingen (Bass Pro Shops, 101 Bass Pro Drive, Harlingen, TX 78552)

Upcoming Panel Discussion set for International Women's Day, March 8

An upcoming panel will focus on women leaders in Education, International Business, Law and Healthcare. Organized by the Office of Global Initiatives Binational Center, the discussion is happening Wednesday, March 8 at 11 a.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111. The event is free and open to the public.

TAMIU Offers Glimpse of Campus' Future with Unveiling of Master Plan March 9

A chance to glimpse the future of TAMIU campus in five years, 15 years, and beyond will be shared with TAMIU students, faculty, staff, and the community at large when a new Master Plan for the University is unveiled Thursday, March 9.

Two information sessions scheduled in the Student Center Ballroom are open to University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. The first is from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and the second from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

TAMIU Athletics Update

TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
