Health Careers For over 50 years, the BSD Health Careers Program has encouraged students to push themselves further by learning about professional behaviors, skills and educational opportunities for a variety of Health Care fields.

YEAR 1

CLASSES:

Start on your path with Health Careers 1 AND Human Anatomy and Physiology. Take Health Careers 1 at BHS while taking Human A&P at your home high school. You'll have the opportunity to earn American Heart BLS and Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications while exploring where you'll go next.

OUTSIDE OF CLASS:

Health Careers students can join HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), assist with program blood drives, volunteer at BSD elementary school vision screenings, and participate in various field trips to explore health care professions and post high school plans.

YEAR 2

CLASSES:

Choose your pathway -- Advanced Health Careers / Core and Clinic or Nursing Assistant 1. Each of these is two credits with Advanced Health Careers meeting one period every day, and Nurse Assisting meeting two blocked periods every other day.

OUTSIDE OF CLASS:

Second year students will be given the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations in local medical offices, or choose a CTE program that will train them for a position in one of the following roles: Pharmacy Technician, EKG Technician, Dental Assistant, or Medical Assistant.
