PLTW (Project Lead the Way) fun at Woodcrest Elementary! Ms. Waltz and Ms. Staley joined forces for PLTW Grids and Games. The students enjoyed collaborating on their PLTW project, Scratch Jr. The students asked questions, explored how to create, modeled their program, evaluated each other's game, and explained necessary changes to be made to make the programs better. A great way to work together with peers to learn, grow and have fun!
During the week of November 14 - 18, students at Woodcrest Elementary collected nonperishable items to donate to the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network (EFPN). The school set a goal to collect 1,000 items throughout the week so Mr. Pennex would have to wear a goofy turkey hat. By the end of the week, they had collected over 2,500 items to donate! We are so proud of their dedication to take action and show care to their community!
What is the Early Middle College Program? The EMC program is a five-year program of study. We work closely with two post-secondary partners, Davenport University and Delta College, to provide students with an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and one or more of the following: 60 transferable credits, an associate degree, or a professional certificate. Almost all expenses are paid for by MPS. For more information, click the button below.
Even the colder than normal temperatures didn't keep these Chestnut Hill Chipmunks from participating in the 2022 Midland Santa Holiday Parade! The parade was held on Saturday, November 19th and started at MHS before continuing to Main Street.

Jefferson Middle School's Life 101 Class and Siebert 2nd Graders Team up to Create a Monster Stuffie! Mrs. Lehman’s 5th & 6th hour Life 101 classes used their sewing skills to make stuffed Monsters for Mrs. LaBonville and Mrs. Cochran’s 2nd grade students. Each second grader designed and colored a monster template and the Life 101 students made their monsters come to life! The two schools celebrated together and enjoyed cupcakes that the Life 101 students baked and decorated.
Steven Hackbarth (MHS) and Moria Brady (DHS) represented their schools recently, recognized as the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Good Citizens. These two were selected by their schools to compete for the DAR Good Citizen scholarship because of their dependability, leadership, service, and patriotism. The scholarship competition included writing a timed essay. Steven Hackbarth was selected as the John Alden Chapter winner and will move on to compete at the state level. Congratulations to Steven and Moria!
Midland Public Schools would like to celebrate our 10-year PYP journey with a Learner Profile Day for all our elementary and pre-k students! On December 7, Students and staff are encouraged to use their creativity to dress like one of the attributes of the Learner Profile. This is not meant to be a burden of shopping and planning, but rather an opportunity to get creative with items found at home! Please reference the flyer for inspiration and ideas for each Learner Profile trait. We can’t wait to see the Learner Profile in action and celebrate how far we have come in our PYP journey as a district.
