Captain's Blog: Junior QB Jordan Hein

BSU Media Relations: It's the first two-a-day of camp, so how are you feeling and how are the guys feeling after a hot day of practice?

Hein: Personally, I'm feeling pretty good. My arm has been in pretty good shape compared to last season because we had a guy come in, Kyle Bagnell, towards the middle of the summer and he helped us out with some arm stuff. I think my arm is in a little bit better shape than previous years. But otherwise the team itself is your typical, we came out a little flat, so we are going to have to pick that up tomorrow.

BSU Media Relations: With this being your first season as a captain, what responsibilities have you seen added to your plate to help the guys?

Hein: To be honest, not a whole lot. The quarterback position, kind of, itself is a leader of the offense so not a whole lots changed. I'm a pretty vocal guy so not a whole lot has changed.

BSU Media Relations: The offense only lost one starter from last season. What have you seen from that experience over the first part of camp?

Hein: Everyone is knowing what's going on and we're already fully installed with just about everything except maybe a couple more plays. We got all of our stuff in so just, reps, reps, reps and getting better.

BSU Media Relations: Last year the quarterback situation was a little different with a combo style heading in. What's your mindset like and does it help knowing you're the solo starter?

Hein: A little bit. I mean, still have to prepare every day and get better every day. Now I think my role also is getting the young guys ready. (I'm) trying to give them my knowledge of what I know and hopefully they're like a sponge and absorbing a little bit of it, so a little bit of both spectrums.

Captain's Blog: Senior DL Mitchell Elbe

BSU Media Relations: What drills did you guys go through today on the first full day of regular practice?

Elbe: Today was a lot of the basics: Stance and start, where you need to be, how you need to defeat certain blocks. Most of the basic stuff still.

BSU Media Relations: Personally, for you as a senior, what is your mindset coming into your final year?

Elbe: It's all about keep working hard and keep grinding. This year we are trying to have a lot more fun and just making the last year the best it can be.

BSU Media Relations: With full practices coming back in swing, what is the team mood like around the locker room and on the field?

Elbe: It's extremely high energy. Everyone's hyped up and ready to go. This is the best first practice since I've been here. Everyone's flying around and it's great to see.

BSU Media Relations: What's been different with this team compared to your past seasons?

Elbe: We had so many guys stay in the summer that almost everyone knows the playbook already and everyone can play the way they need to play. You don't need to think about it. You just need to play football.
