Adams Update november 4, 2022

No School: Tuesday, November 8

Remember that there is no school next Tuesday, November 8. It is a PD day for teachers and no school for students.

Breakfast Procedure Changes

Starting on Monday, ALL students who eat breakfast at school will eat in their classrooms, after school starts. This is true for students in all grades, Kindergarten through 5th grade. Please note: if your child is in Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade, this is a change.

Books, Books, and More Books!

It was an exciting week for Literacy here at Adams Elementary. Students enjoyed shopping at the Book Fair, and parents took advantage of the same opportunity during Parent-Teacher Conferences yesterday. All told, more than 1,400 books were sold! That means 1,400 more books in the hands of excited kids, and that we truly love to see. Additionally, Umbareen Jamil, Adams parent, dropped off copies of Lailah's Lunchbox for each of our classrooms. It is a beautiful story about a girl celebrating Ramadan, and what that means to her and her family. Thank you to our community partners from the Islamic Center of Midland for this kind gift.

Thank you, Northwood University Students!

Speaking of community partners, a hearty thank you also goes out to Northwood University and the Northwood students who volunteered here at Adams today. You may have seen Northwood students around town, serving others as part of their Go Mad ("Go Make A Difference") Day. We had Timberwolf students helping tear down the book fair and also participating in our Fall Garden Clean-Up. Thank you, Timberwolves, for your assistance!

Report Cards Now Available on ParentVUE

First Marking Period report cards are now visible on ParentVUE, which means you can see them on your phone or online. If you view the report cards on the app, you can scroll through the boxes, or view a pdf, whichever works best for you. A few notes to keep in mind as you read the report card: the key for the marks is at the bottom of the indicators, so scroll down to view. The marks on the PYP portion of the report card simply show you which units were covered so far. There are no grades, yet, for the Auxiliary classes (Art, Music, PE, World Language), as those grades are only figured at the end of each semester. Please let your child's teacher or me know if you have any questions about grades.

Fire Drill #3 Complete

This Tuesday we successfully completed our third Fire Drill of the school year. Everyone did well as we practiced our emergency evacuation procedures. Most students seemed to feel ok about the drill, but please remember that we have resources on hand to help students process their feelings about drills if there are any big feelings that arise.

School Pictures

Look for picture packets in backpacks this week! The pictures were delivered to school and are now on their way home to you.

Picture Retakes

Picture Retakes are Monday, November 14 - HR Imaging has a NO QUESTIONS ASKED policy for retakes. If you are not happy with your student's picture, it can be retaken on retake day. Students must bring their original proofing envelope or purchased package and return it to their homeroom teacher to have the retakes.
