The Blast City Manager Holstine's Weekly Update | July 19, 2023

The City-Wide Yard Sale is Finally Here!

If you registered for the City-Wide Garage Sale that's taking place this Saturday, July 22nd from 9am - 3pm, please remember to pick up your registration packet at the Library! They're against the wall, by the History Room. Thank you the Friends of the Brisbane Library for organizing this event each year, which supports programming at the Brisbane Library! And thank you to the Lions who will be BBQ'ing up lunch in the Park! It's sure to be a great day.

And speaking of special library programming, the Brisbane Library last Saturday welcomed African percussionist Onye Onyemaechi, who showcased the powerful and beautiful musical traditions of his home, Nigeria. His students, as you can see, were fast learners!

You can watch the video of Onye teaching on Facebook or Instagram.

Tools, gloves (freshly laundered) & an educational booklet will be provided. Volunteers get free t-shirts and free lunch! Sign up at brisbaneca.org/habitat.

Concerts in the Park Kicked Off Friday with Possibly Largest Crowd to Date!

We couldn’t have asked for better weather last Friday as our Summer Concert Series kicked off last Friday with Pride & Joy! Thank you, Parks and Rec, for all the new additions to the Concerts, like Julie’s Deli pickup in the park, comfy couches to kick off your shoes, and a fun photo booth!

Thanks for showing UP, Brisbane!
And don't forget, the Lions are out grilling up hotdogs for the community at the picnic tables (donations accepted)! It’s the generosity of residents during community events such as Concerts that allow the Lions to meet their annual scholarship goals. Thank you!

Be sure to come out this Friday evening at 6pm for the Lions-sponsored Dance Party with DJ Sharon! (Note: Julie's pre-orders/pick-up in the Park will not be available on this night)

Meet Brisbane's Summer Interns!

From left to right: Daniel Moorhatch, Grace Baldwin, Daniel O'Malley, Gianna Brogley, and Oscar Li.

Our summer interns have been easing into their respective program areas. We have two Daniels; Daniel Moorhatch is learning about all things IT and servers, being the first IT intern, ever, and Daniel O'Malley joined just this past Monday as Public Work's Utilities Intern. Grace Baldwin is assisting our Communications Team, Gianna Brogley is our Sustainability Intern, and Oscar Li joined as our Finance Intern. I truly love our Summer Internship Program, which has been going on for at least the last 20 years, as it brings fresh perspective into our organization. I look forward to spending more time with these five and hearing what they're excited to be working on this summer!

Stay Safe in the Extreme Summer Heat

The summer’s first weekend of extreme heat has passed but another is coming later this week. Initial warm up begins Thursday with temps in the upper 80s for most, 90s inland. Friday and Saturday expected to be the hottest with widespread temps in the 90s, inland areas up to 105-108. The coast remains in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Even though our temps are going to be mild, health and emergency management leaders still recommend residents remind themselves of how to stay safe. Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting - Wednesday, July 12, 6:30pm

Public Art Advisory Committee Meeting, Monday, July 17, 4:30pm

Did You Know?

The ruckus neighbors to the school have been hearing stems from the BES parking lot being made level for ADA access - from the parking lot to the building. Unfortunately, to do this, the old parking lot had to be dug up, where a retaining wall will be put in. Additional spaces will also be added, as well as a drop-off lane for Preschool and Kindergarten families. In addition, all of the storm drains are being replaced (you may have seen the pipes). Concrete pouring for the footings starts on Monday the 24th and finishes up on Wednesday the 26th. This will likely be the next noisy task. We're working with the School District to try and give residents a heads-up as to when any additional noisier work is expected to take place (construction hours are 7am - 7pm on weekdays and 9am - 7pm on weekends). In the meantime, if you have any questions about the BES modernization project, please contact the Brisbane School District at (415) 467-0550 or send them an email via their Contact Form.
