Newsletter 28th January 2022

There has been another full week of learning and exciting opportunities this week. We started the week the week sharing One Peace - looking at how young people play an important role in peace.

One Peace celebrates the Power of One, and specifically the accomplishments of children from around the globe who have worked to promote world peace. We talked about how we can challenge ourselves to strive to make a difference. We found out and heard the voice of lots of inspirations young people.

School life

What another busy week, from Football and Basketball tournaments and Judo, to rockets flying into space and everything in-between! A big thank you to everyone who brought cardboard into school as well - there were some great cardboard creations yesterday.

A big well done to the football team who represented East Cleveland in the regional final against Wheatlands. The team played well but were narrowly beaten 2-0 in a very close game. A big well done to them and good luck to Wheatlands Primary who go on to represent the area in the Northern finals.

On Wednesday, 13 Y6 children represented the school at a basketball festival, and all did exceptionally well. Both teams demonstrated fantastic teamwork and some children were individually recognised for showing the sporting value - passion.

This week Reception have been thinking of ways to help the gingerbread man avoid getting eaten by the fox. Some of the children have built bridges and the children have been investigating suitable materials to make boats. Thank you for all your contributions of suitable boat making containers. We have also been really practising anti clockwise movements so the children can all form c, o, a, d and g correctly. Lots of the children have mastered this this week, well done everyone! Next week the children in Nursery and Reception will be finding out about Chinese New Year. This year will be the year of the Tiger.

Time Tables Rockstars

This week we have relaunched Times Tables Rockstars in KS2, with the children battling out to be the ultimate champion. The buzz to beat their own personal best and play competitively within KS2 has been fantastic to see. A huge well done to Max, Erin and Elliot who played against each other for the Rock God status. Elliot is our first Rock God, but who will it be next week? Year 4 won the trophy for the most played class - well done!

Next week, we will launch NumBots for KS1.

NSPCC Number Day

Next Friday, on 4th February, the whole school will be taking part in the NSPCC Number Day. During the day, the children will take part in some extra maths challenges, and we will be raising money for the NSPCC by Dressing Up for Digits. Children can come to school wearing an item of clothing with a number on. Donations can be made using the JustGiving link below. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Galley-Hill-NumberDay

Well done to last week's winner's:

Here is this week's stimulus:

You might want to use this story starter:

They had lived there for as long as he could remember. Generations and generations passed, but very little changed. They kept themselves to themselves, hidden away from the world. Solitary, peaceful, different: they enjoyed staying out of the limelight. They enjoyed letting others be the centre of attention.

They were strange folk in a way, small and strange. However, they were also very, very interesting. These small folk were entirely unique, as you are about to find out…

We bought some as a school which can be purchased through Let's Localise here:

COVID

Thank you for all of your continued support in following self-isolation of the children in school. As there have been recent changes, I have attached the recent changes from 17th January again, as well as the diagram to aid. All information can be found here on the .gov website. You can also phone school if you are unsure or unclear of the current rules and guidance.

Individuals may only leave isolation once they have had 2 negative rapid lateral flow tests on 2 consecutive days; if they test positive on day 5, 6 or 7, they must continue testing until they have 2 negative tests.

If you test positive for COVID-19 you must self-isolate, it is the law. The law states that you must self-isolate for 10 days, however this change enables people who are not infectious, proven via 2 negative tests over 2 days, which can start from day 5, to leave isolation on day 6.

If individuals test positive during their isolation period it does not restart the clock for the 10-day isolation period. Day 0 of the isolation period is when you first show symptoms or, if asymptomatic, the day you took your test.

The rules for contacts have not changed. Fully vaccinated individuals who are identified as contacts of someone with COVID-19 should take daily rapid lateral flow tests for 7 days but are not legally required to self-isolate. Unvaccinated contacts are legally required to self-isolate for the full 10-day period.

Thank you for your support on this as we continue to keep the children and community safe.
