Success for All!

Special Olympics Returns

On May 17 Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools partnered with Special Olympics British Columbia to host the Inaugural BC School Sport Soccer Competition at the Q’unq’inuqwstuxw turf field. In the unified division were teams from John Barsby Community School, and two teams from Lake Trail Community School.

The Special Olympics division had teams from Dover Bay Secondary, Nanaimo District Secondary and Alberni District Secondary School. A fantastic day was had by all playing soccer, participating in skills and drill competitions, playing fun games such as spike ball, bean bag toss, horseshoes, and card games. The best part of the day was all the socializing that took place with the athletes and all the peer volunteers from Nanaimo District Secondary Lacrosse and Beach Volleyball academy programs.

For some athletes this was the first time they got to represent their school and proudly wear the school uniform in an athletic competition. The winner of the unified division was John Barsby Community School and the winner of the Special Olympics division was Dover Bay Secondary School. Here's a quick look at some of the events.
