Susan Eloise Hinton
Susan Eloise (S.E.) Hinton is a young adult author most famous for writing the teen drama novel, The Outsiders. Written in 1965 when she was only 16, The Outsiders has sold over 14 million copies worldwide and averages 600,000 sales per year. Hinton was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is also the setting for The Outsiders. The book is based off of her personal observations of two rival gangs at Will Rodgers High School. To this day, the novel continues to be one of the most read books in middle schools across the United States.

The Admiral Twin
Build in 1951, The Admiral Twin Drive-in movie theatre is a historical landmark in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This theater functions as the backdrop for rising action in The Outsiders and where the characters Ponyboy and Cherry meet for the first time. This chance meeting gets them in trouble with the rival gang, the Socs.
In 2010, a fire destroyed the viewing screen at the Admiral Twin, but with community support, the screens were rebuilt and the theatre was reopened to the general public. See the video below.
