WGPS Super Stars of the Week
A HUGE WELL DONE!! Below are our WGPS SUPER STARS OF THE WEEK in Assemblies so far in SEPTEMBER 2022. Each week in our WGPS Assemblies we give the WGPS SUPER STARS OF THE WEEK awards to pupils who have been outstanding in school and also achieved special awards outside of school too.
Any child that gains a 'Star of The Week' also sits at the 'Captain's Table' on a Monday which has special treats, tablecloths, posh glasses to make it extra special.
Attendance
We all want children to achieve 100% attendance but we understand that sometimes appointments are unavoidable. If a child attends an appointment but is not present at registration 9am and 1pm the mark is classed as authorised absence - this unfortunately is included as an absence. Please see our top tips below
- Any non urgent appointments to be made wherever possible in the 12 weeks of holidays spread throughout the year.
- Try to book appointments after 3.30pm so that school time is not missed.
- Ensure your child is at school for registration then leaves for their appointment to receive their mark.
School councilors have been very keen to help improve attendance and they order small celebratory gifts which they give out at the end of each half term for anybody with 100% attendance. This way if anyone has had absence in one half term, there is always chance to gain 100% attendance for the following half term. They have also introduced prizes on the 'Spin The Wheel' where the winning class with the highest attendance gets a reward each week. This could be 10 minutes extra play time, ipad time, hot chocolate treat drink or other rewards.

Halloween Disco
WGPS KS1 & KS2 had their Halloween Disco school on Tuesday 1st November 2022. The children all had a fantastic time dancing and went down a 'TREAT'!!!!
Our Halloween Disco was a huge success, so thank you to all the children and parent/carers for your fantastic efforts with their costumes. The children looked fantastic! Also a big thank you to our teaching/catering staff for providing the children with hotdogs and refreshments at the event. Below are some of the photos from the event.

Y3 Trip to Salts Mill in Shipley
As part of Y3's studies, the children had a class trip to visit Salts Mill in Shipley to begin an art project on painting landscapes. They had an amazing time with lots of inspiration to help them in lessons for this half term's topic. Salts Mill's Art Gallery displays a number of David Hockney's painting and inspiring space. The children saw the 'Arrival of Spring' artwork by David Hockney on their visit and images of their trip can be seen below.
Y6 Crucial Crew Trip
Y6 pupils will be going on their CRUCIAL CREW trip on TUESDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2022. The children will be taking part in the Crucial Crew 2022 Project which is an event organised by the South Yorkshire Police, Fire and Rescue and also South Yorkshire safer Roads Partnership held at the Lifewise Centre at Kea Park Close Hellaby. This purpose-built setting provides the means to educate visitors to Crucial Crew in an interactive setting about safety and citizenship with the ultimate aim of reducing crime and improving quality of life. Children will be taking part in scenarios which could happen to them in everyday life eg. fire, road safety, vandalism, online safety etc.
Year 6 Parent/Carer's KS2 SAT's Information Meeting
The Year 6 Parent/Carers have been invited to our WGPS's Y6 Parent/Carer's KS2 SAT's Information Meeting. This meeting will take place at WGPS on THURSDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2022 at 3.30pm in Miss Maybury's classroom. Parent/Cares will be able to find out information on Year KS SAT's and ask the Year 6 Teaching Staff any questions or queries that they may have. Year 6 Teaching staff will also send the information out to parents on Seesaw after the meeting in case parent/carers cannot attend the meeting at school.
Poppy Appeal Merchandise
At WGPS, children will be able to purchase at playtimes the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Merchandise items for a donation of choice (minimum of 50p per item). There are wristbands, snap wrist band rulers, poppy bracelets, enamel 2022 pin badges, stick on poppies and poppies with a pin to choose from. Any donations will help support the 2022 Poppy Appeal campaign to help the Royal British Legion continue with its vital work supporting the Armed Forces community.
Children will be on the KS1 playground and KS2 entrances in the mornings from 7th November so that children can purchase the Poppy Appeal Merchandise.
Children In Need Day& HCAT's T T Rockstars Competiton Day
On FRIDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2022 WGPS will be celebrating BOTH Children In Need Day to raise money for a fabulous charity AND we are also holding HCAT's T T ROCKSTARS COMPETITION DAY as well!!!!!
HCAT's T T Rockstars Competition Day - children can come to school dressed as their favourite pop or rock star! There will be HCAT prizes for the best dressed, highest scoring pupils and highest scoring classes - PLUS who will win the HIGHEST SCORING SCHOOL TROPHY this year?????? Plenty of prizes to be won including Personalised TTRS T-Shirts and even Dominos Lunch!!!!
Therefore on FRIDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2022 ALL children can come to school in either 'SPOTS' or 'ROCKSTAR' outfits for a £1 donation for our NON-UNIFORM DAY. All monies raised on the day will be going to CHILDREN IN NEED!!!
Staying Safe Online at Home & in the Community

INSET DAY - 25th November 2022
Please note that school will be CLOSED for our INSET DAY on FRIDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2022. School will re-open on MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2022.
Christmas Fair
WGPS will be holding our CHRISTMAS FAIR on FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2022 from 2pm. In the next few weeks we will update you further with more details of the event. However, in the meantime any donations of gifts for raffle prizes etc these will gratefully be accepted, and you can hand these into the school office. Come and join in the fun!!
WGPS Breakfast Club
Remember that WGPS have a Breakfast Club in School for KS2 children which starts at 8am Monday to Friday costing £3.00 per child. WGPS's Breakfast Club offers your child a fabulous start to the school day in a morning with a delicious healthy breakfast as well as fabulous activities with smiling faces. Come and join us.

Sports & After School Sports Section
WGPS School's After School Clubs & YMCA Club
WGPS School's After School Clubs and YMCA Club details are below for the new Autumn 1 Term from September up to the October Half Term. Please note, you MUST BOOK your child's place by making PAYMENT on ARBOR. Once all maximum places have been filled, the Arbor System will not allow any further payments due to the club being fully booked. You will therefore, have to try to book another date where there are spaces available. YMCA Club is FREE and no booking is required.
WGPS Sporting Calendar for 2021-22:
Children will be invited to attend a variety of sporting fixtures across the year involving Barnsley schools. The next fixtures planned to take place are:
11TH NOVEMBER 2022 - Year 3 & Year 4 Cross Country

25TH NOVEMBER 2022 - Year 3 & Year 4 Benchball

PRIMARY SPORTS CLUB
The After School Multi-Sports Clubs run by Chris and Lee at Ward Green Primary School on Wednesday and Thursdays.
Children should be collected from the school reception at their pick up time and money should be paid on the day, directly to the sports coaches at pick up time.

OCTOBER HALF TERM HOLIDAY - PRIMARY SPORTS COACHING CLUB
