A Portfolio about Portfolios Using Adobe Express to create a great looking digital portfolio

Welcome to Dr Tim Kitchen's portfolio about portfolios.

What are digital portfolios?

Digital portfolios are designed to demonstrate what students know and how they got there through a digital tool like Adobe Express. They are a great way to reflect on what has been learned during this unit of work.

Some argue that we should just be calling them portfolios because just about everything these days is documented and communicate digitally.

Different types of portfolios

There are four basic styles of portfolios:

  • Reflection - used to consider what was learned, how concepts were learned and what could be improved in future learning experiences.
  • Demonstration - aimed at a collection of artifacts (sample of work such a s video evidence, scans, images) and commentary that explains and displays what has been learned in a specific unit of work, subject or experience.
  • Development - aimed to support decisions about future learning.
  • Assessment - aimed at providing evidence of learning.

Any portfolio can have elements of one or more of the above styles.

Digital Portfolios can be in the format of a webpage, a video, a podcast or a mix of all three.

Why are digital portfolios helpful?

Portfolios help students to reflect on their learning and provide evidence of learning that has taken place. They help to make connections between topics within the curriculum and they encourage students to develop creative presentation skills.

Who is the audience?

Portfolios can be created for individual students to reflect on their learning and aid study for an assessment. They can also be created for teachers and parents as a way of demonstrating learning outcomes. They can also be a practical guide to provide to future university admissions administrators and employers to demonstrate achievements, communication skills and creativity.
