Undergraduates Kennedy Outlaw (Lyon Lab) and Diane Santos (Parkinson Lab) are best friends who met in Purdue’s Emerging Leaders Scholars Program. Read more about their Purdue STEM experience and how a shared love of science formed a friendship.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD

Abi Soliven was a winner of the Spring 2022 C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) Undergraduate Research Competition. She received $500 for her award-winning oral presentation on tactics to improve scientific communication. A junior from Melbourne, Fla and a member of Professor Uyeda’s lab, Abi will present her work at the national CCSE Research Conference held at Purdue in October.

FACULTY PROMOTIONS

Professors Uyeda and Chopra

Purdue's Board of Trustees approved the faculty promotions of Christopher H. Uyeda to professor of chemistry and Gaurav Chopra to associate professor of chemistry. The promotions are effective this summer.

FACULTLY TEACHING AWARDS

Professors Lipton, Towns, and Rienstra-Kiracofe

Professor Mark Lipton was presenting the 2022 Class of 1922 Helping Students Learn Award for his “Reorganization of Organic Chemistry Curriculum to Improve Student Learning" multi-year effort to re-envisioned how organic is taught to our majors.

Professor Marcy Towns earned the department’s 2022 Arthur Kelley Undergraduate Teaching Award for her outstanding undergraduate instruction in CHM111 and CHM112.

Professor Jon Rienstra-Kiracofe has been selected as a Teaching Leadership Award Fellow by The Purdue Teaching Academy and the Center for Instructional Excellence.

Graduate student Casey Wright was presented the 2022 Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award.

Graduate student Hugo Samayoa (J. Laskin Lab) has received the Purdue Teaching Academy Award for “outstanding contributions to teaching and learning.”

Purdue College of Science honored Fred LaPlant with a 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award. He earned a PhD in 1995 studying with Professor Dor Ben-Amotz. Read more about Dr. LaPlant’s research efforts at 3M, and how he is giving back to Purdue Chemistry.
