Reflections from the Acting Head
Moyra Thompson
Dear Parents,
At Oakfield we seek constantly to create and develop opportunities for our children to play an active and positive role in all aspects of school life, in order to grow their leadership skills. It is important to us that they should be given the chance to experience leading an initiative or hold a position of responsibility that has an impact on the school as a whole.
I was so proud this week of three outstanding examples of this belief being demonstrated in practice. Our Head Boy and Girl, Eddie and Sophie, stood next to me on Open Morning and delivered speeches to the large group of prospective parents with enormous confidence, charm and sincerity and received well-deserved rounds of applause. They were joined by our House and Vice-Captains who led tours around both sides of the road and acted as brilliant ambassadors for Oakfield.
I was equally proud to award Rolls of Honour to Marnnasha and Ella for their help in leading the Parents' Writing Workshop for Years 3-6 and to see our School Council representatives lead a Friday Assembly on e-safety which they devised and presented themselves, thereby gaining experience as Digital Leaders who are able to model safe use of technology and educate their peers about staying safe online.
I look forward to seeing great future growth of pupil leadership as we continue to lay opportunities before our children and expect much of them - they do not disappoint!
Enjoy a safe and happy weekend.
Pre-Prep
Dear Parents,
Thank you all so much for your help in getting the new school year off to a good start. It has been wonderful to see children in the Pre-Prep skip happily into school in the mornings, and how well they have adapted to new routines and expectations.
We are so fortunate to have such well-mannered, caring and kind children in our school and we value your input to help them settle happily.
Here are a just a few reminders to keep our Pre-Prep running smoothly:
Please return all Tapestry forms by Monday 30th September for the latest, as we wish to go live in early October. This is a very important tool to monitor and record your child's development, so I would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. Additionally, you will have some insight into their school day, which will surely help initiate conversations about their learning.
All Early Years funding forms should now be submitted. Please ensure you have handed it to the class teacher, as well as provided proof of your child's identity (passport/birth certificate). Thank you.
Kindly remember that all children should be closely supervised by parents before and after school, avoiding the use of equipment, scooters and the adventure aeroplane. Staff have been allocated to other areas of the playground in the mornings, so until your child is with their teacher, their safety and care is in your hands.
Please note that we have extra-curricular and after school care clubs running in areas of the playground in the afternoons, so would appreciate your help in ensuring children are collected on time, so we may secure the gates promptly after collection.
Please avoid using mobile phones in school to ensure we meet our 'acceptable use' policy guidelines. Photographs of other children are not allowed without parent permission.
To ensure children's safety, and to prevent accidents, scooters should not be ridden on school premises.
We must apologise for any errors with regard to extra-curricular clubs, as we have experienced some teething problems at the start of the term. We have now resolved these, so now look forward to extending your child's interests and experiences.
In order to report any late collections, late arrivals, alternative persons collecting your child or any changes to your routine directly to the class teacher, I provide the following class teacher email addresses:

Thank you so much for your support in our Phonics Workshop. Many parents attended and found the tips useful. We look forward to an inspiring Maths workshop next Monday at 9am in the Pre-Prep hall.
I look forward to a productive and happy term, and thank you for your help in the smooth running of our school day.
With kind regards,

Year 1
Smoothie Face and Veggie Head joined Year 1!
In Year 1, we made fruit faces in the style of Giuseppe Arcimboldo using a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Year 3
Healthy Diet, and Healthy Teeth
In 3CF, we have been learning about a healthy diet and healthy teeth. We have looked at different food groups to understand what we mean by a balanced diet. We also have learnt about how sugar can attack our teeth if we eat too much of it too often. We practised brushing a gigantic set of teeth from front to back in circular motions, not forgetting our gums, and we were surprised at how long 2 minutes actually felt!
Year 4
Science
This week in Science, Year 4 have been investigating which material is the best for keeping a hot drink hot. They used thermometers to measure the water temperature and recorded their results.
Sports
ProKick Schools Challenge
Thursday 26th September saw the return of ProKick to the playground of Oakfield School.

It's been a great team effort and results and photos of the event will be in next week's Newsletter. Well done everyone!
ISFA's Under 11 South West Regional Football Tournament
On Friday 20th September, Oakfield's First Football Team played in the ISFA's Under 11 South West Regioanl Football Tournament.
Oakfield's first team is a young team and need some time to adapt to Under 11 Football. This tournament is the hardest by far and unfortunately very early in the season. Results: Won 1, Lost 3 and Drew 1. We are working towards the ISA Regional Finals in November and many positives came from last Friday. The boys are really keen to do well and from last year's success they know what can be achieved.
