OUTDOOR FUN

One of the best parts of the summer term is being able to make the most of the sunshine and be out in the fresh air. Here are some of the children outside this afternoon enjoying golden time and practising for sports day.

FREE WATER SAFETY TRAINING

Former Goole councillor and mayor Malcolm Boatman has acquired a £1000 donation to a charity based in Scarborough who deliver lifesaving swimming training during the summer holidays. The training is provided by RNLI and Swim England with the assistance of volunteers from the Andrew McGeown Legacy Fund.

Mr Boatman wants young people from Goole to have the opportunity of receiving this worthy training, so has also secured the funding for a coach to take them to Bridlington on Tuesday 16 August. The coach will set off from Goole around 9am and return at tea time. Children must be aged between 7 and 14 years old, and be able to swim 25 metres. They must also be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Everything is provided free, and the training session lasts around an hour. There will also be around 5 hours free time to enjoy in Bridlington. All children need on the day is their swimwear and towel. For more information or to book a place on the trip contact Malcolm Boatman on 07812 758861 or direct message him on Facebook.

SELF-CARE PLAN

Just as we look after our physical health, it’s important to look after our mental health. Self-care is all about what you can do to help yourself feel better or to keep yourself feeling good. It’s a way that we can look after our own mental health and wellbeing. It can help your body and mind to relax, drift away, or be more energised.

This self-care plan walks primary-aged children through a series of steps, helping them create a simple self-care plan that works for them. It helps children identify activities that they can use to support their mental health.

The resource was co-written by Anna Freud Centre experts and young people, who shared ideas on self-care strategies that work for them.
