Literacy
During Literacy this half term we focused on the key text of ‘Hidden Figures’.
We used skills such as technical vocabulary, persuasive devices and emotive language to create a formal, persuasive letter to send to a judge!
We thought carefully about how we would feel if we were in Mary’s position and reflected this in our final outcome.
Our second outcome was a balanced argument and it was focused on the story of the Mars Rover ‘Curiosity’.
We have continued to really impress Mrs Hayes and Mr Garrood with our determination and resilience to write some fantastic pieces of writing for our writing portfolio.
LIRA
In LIRA this term, we firstly focused on non-fiction texts linked to our art topic of Frida Kahlo.
We then moved onto looking at non-fiction extracts all about inspirational black women which linked into our Literacy unit!
Next, we moved onto non-fiction texts all about Space before finally finishing on poetry. During these topics we explored comprehension style questions and used our own opinions and the text to give detailed answers!
Maths
In maths this half term we recapped fractions, decimals and percentages! We then applied our skills to problem solving and reasoning questions. We really impressed Mrs Hayes and Mr Garrood with our resilience and determination to further our understanding and learning during our maths lessons!
We have also continued to show the school values of being resilient and independent when improving our arithmetic scores! Great to see so many of our pupils continuing to strive to be the best they can! Keep it up!
Topic
This half term our focus area for topic has been on Art. During this topic we explored the great artist Frida Kahlo.
In our lessons we have experimented with different mediums including sketching and watercolours. We have learnt all about the different colour types and used these to create our own colour wheel based on the colours Frida Kahlo used in her artwork.
Our final outcome was to produce a self-portrait in the style of Frida Kahlo. We can’t wait to show these off during our art galley event. We are very proud of our sketchbooks and the final outcomes that we have produced.
Science
In science this term we looked at Planets and the Solar System.
During this unit we learnt all about the nine planets and the order they appear in our solar system. We also learnt lots of amazing facts all about space!
As our 'hook' into this unit we also had the amazing opportunity to visit Horzion and take part in a brilliant solar system workshop!
Celebrations
During this half we have had lots of children show the school values and were awarded certificates! Lots of other celebrations too. Make sure you continue to share your celebrations from home with us by either bringing things into school, on Twitter or on Seesaw - we love to see them!
Singathon
Thank you to all members of Class 10 for taking part in the HCAT Singathon and for the sponsors. It is brilliant to see so much kindness in our class. We really enjoyed taking part in the Singathon! Remember to take a look at Barnsley Youth Choir website if you are interested in joining - it would be great to see some of our pupils involved in this great oppoerunity.
TTRockstars Day
We had a brilliant day celebrating TT Rockstars day in Class 10! There were some brilliant costumes and it was fantastic to see everyone so enthusiastic about their timestables,
