The off-season, the best time to work on your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. The A&T Cheerleaders make sure to set aside time while in school and working to still decide on a day or two a week to go to the track or wherever they can in order to practice what they know and maybe even get new schools. Cheerleading requires a lot of commitment and practice.
Keep running! Maintaining an active lifestyle during off season will help you not feel out of shape when you return. Run three to five miles each week to keep your fitness level up. The task is tough, but are you aiming to be the best? You can't become a champion overnight. Start with the basics.
The most dangerous and prohibited items during the season. These are not allowed because they can cause injuries, such as getting your piercing yanked out or even getting deep cuts from someone else’s nails. We love off-season solely for the long nails and jewelry.
Strength and flexibility aren’t given to you overnight. Off season is the best time to work on those two components. You can do pushups and sit in your middle split at any time of the day. Don’t be lazy during off-season!!
During the season, there’s no such thing as protective styles like braids and locs. Just curly hair that always gets in your face. Off season is the best time to put your hair away, and prepare for the next season of course.
Tumbling is 99% mental and 1% physical, and practice makes perfect. It’s important to stay repetitive on your skills so that you’ll never lose them and never lose confidence in yourself. Once the skill is mastered, you have to make sure to solely focus on your form. And, who doesn’t love tumbling?
In season or not, always bring it in. The huddle signifies a completed, productive practice. It’s the joy you feel when you know it’s time to go home…then come back and do it tomorrow. “AGGIE PRIDE ON ME AGGIE PRIDE ON 3. 1….2…..3…. AGGIE PRIDE!”
