This year we are reporting our 2020 and 2021 numbers. Nearly every family we serve is high risk for COVID-19. We take their health and the health of our volunteers extremely seriously. We are grateful that our relationships with local hospitals have allowed us to safely continue our services for end of life and emergency sessions.
We dearly missed meeting all of the families we would have served through national conferences and summer camps in 2020 and 2021. Soulumination found ways to serve families in new and safe environments, such as yearly outdoor mini sessions for returning Soul Children and their families. We are cautiously hopeful we can provide a greater number of photography sessions in 2022.
Our Programs
Our Treasured Child Program serves families with children, ages 18 & under, facing life-threatening conditions.
The Parent Legacy Program serves families with parents facing life threatening conditions, who have children ages 18 & under.
The Bereavement Program gifts our custom, photographic legacy package to families affected by suicide or other unexpected loss.

Soulumination is always striving to move forward and realize ways to serve more families. We are excited to announce that Soulumination will begin offering our services in Eastern Washington in 2022 at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. We are beyond proud to expand the scope our work.

Our Soulumination photos mean everything to us. They are the only photos we have of the three of us together and the emotions they capture are priceless. Memories can sometimes change or distort moments in time, but our photos keep them exactly how I remember.

We are fortunate to have registered nurses at Seattle Children’s Hospital as Soulumination photographers. In certain situations, and especially during the early days of the pandemic, this has been vital for our ability to photograph in short-notice situations where timing is critical. Registered Nurse, Jennifer Bugbee, a Soulumination photographer since 2012, describes well the scope of our work. Jen has photographed many hope-filled sessions and also many difficult sessions for Soulumination, both equally important to document. Frequently, the families Jen photographs are her patients which naturally lends itself to a close connection and an extra special session. Of her work she says:
“Having been a nurse for almost 18 years I have seen so much. The happy days when prayers have been answered, along with the tragic days when a life has left us too early. It’s these hard days that make me so thankful to be a part of Soulumination. Not only has it allowed me to combine my love for photography and my love of neonatal nursing, but it allows me to give these families something to hold on to when it can’t be their babies.”

A Letter From Our Founder
Entering 2022 with my doctors saying I am in complete remission is exciting to say the least. This is my 10th year of living with lymphoma and there is some hope that this last trial therapy may end the need for further treatment. After 5 serious attempts to stop this beast it would be amazing to have found something to either cure it or gain a long remission. There is a nagging issue of something new showing up in my bone marrow that is caused by a past treatment. I am working to let that rest until there are signs of issues. It is my honor to have given all the blood and tissue that was requested for research. I so hope to make a difference for others that I am drawing my own blood at home with a brand new device.
The last board meeting for Soulumination left me joyful and a few times tears were shed. I am so moved by the work of each photographer who has given their time and talent in such a meaningful way over the past 17 years. We have successfully provided photos thru the pandemic and with the grace of our supporters we are now expanding our work into Spokane. To have the trust and support of so many is a dream come true. This is work of my heart and my gratitude is abundant.
During treatment I could not touch plant material so was not able to be part of my favorite fundraiser, the annual wreath sale. To stay creative and thank those buying wreaths I started making hearts from air dry clay. I made 100 hearts to gift with each wreath purchased and sold about 200 more to help fund our work. I have made 60 limited edition winged hearts to give to donors during my birthday Facebook fundraiser. I have always wanted to try clay and this is a meaningful start. I will have some new designs for this years' wreath sale.
We just had job reviews for our staff and its wonderful and moving to hear just how blessed we are to have such an outstanding staff. As the weather improves I will be able to meet families outside for photos and you might imagine this makes my heart sing.
My final paragraph is always the first names of those we have lost. It's heart wrenching to share these names, but its also our honor to have worked with them:
